Fort Worth Wings

The Fort Worth Wings bounced around a bit. They started in Indianapolis in 1963 as the Capitols and then changed their moniker to 'Wings' as they moved to Cincinnati and then Memphis. In 1967 they continued their trek south, stopping in Fort Worth, Texas. There, the Wings would have a successful seven year stay as part of the Central Hockey League (CHL).

In Fort Worth, the Wings made the playoffs in six of their seven seasons including a Finals appearance in 1968 that they unfortunately lost to the Tulsa Oilers. But on their way to the Finals they beat the Dallas Blackhawks in five games (3-2) and it became one of the fiercest rivalries in the old minor leagues. With the Blackhawks nearby in Dallas and less than 10 teams in the league each season, the Wings and Hawks saw each other a lot and created quite a rivalry. 

In 1974, the Wings rebranded as the Fort Worth Texans, a name they held until the franchise went out of business in 1982. The Wings saw more NHL players come through than we can name here, but some of the standouts include Andre St. Laurent, Glenn 'Chico' Resch, and Pete Mahovlich.
