El Paso Buzzards
The El Paso Buzzards played in the WPHL and CHL from 1996-2003 at the El Paso County Coliseum. The team was immediately successful upon their entry to the WPHL in 1996, going 33-23 in their first season and 43-20 in their second. They would win back-to-back league titles those first two seasons, 1996-97 and 1997-98. The team had great success on the ice and was also playing to crowds of 4,000+ at the Coliseum. The Coliseum itself is a historic venue, opening in 1942.
The Buzzards wouldn't have as much success after those first two seasons, though. They would spend three more solid years in the WPHL, losing in the first round of the playoffs each time. In 2001, the league merged with the CHL and the Buzzards played two unsuccessful seasons there before folding.
