Miami Screaming Eagles
The Miami Screaming Eagles are another original WHA team that never played a game. They were supposed to be based in Florida and were owned in part by player Bernie Parent, who became the first NHL player to sign with the WHA. Owner Herb Martin had developed a plan to build an arena inside the four walls of -- and I am not joking -- an office building, naming the design Executive Square Arena. Apparently this was somehow considered such a great plan in 1972 that the WHA had planned to host the inaugural game there. That plan never came to fruition and there were no other suitable arena options in Miami at that time. With the Eagles unable to secure a home in Florida, their ownership was transferred to a group that moved them to Philadelphia to become the Blazers.
