George Sharp
George Kendall Sharp was a Article III federal judge on the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. He joined the court in 1983 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. His service ended on March 24, 2022, upon his death.[1]
Early life and education
A native of Chicago, Sharp graduated from Yale University with his bachelor's degree in 1957 and from the University of Virginia School of Law with his juris doctorate degree in 1963. Also, Sharp served in the US Naval Reserve as a captain from 1957 to 1988 and served on active duty from 1957 to 1960.
Professional career
After law school, Sharp became a Private practice attorney in the State of Florida from 1963 to 1978 and also served as a Public defender for indigent clients in Florida's 19th Judicial Circuit from 1964 to 1968 and a School board attorney for Indian River County from 1968 to 1978. In 1978, Sharp was appointed Circuit Court JJudge for Florida's 19th Circuit Court and served in the post till his appointment to the federal bench in 1983. Also in 1979, Sharp was a part-time Faculty member for Indian River Community College.
Judicial career
Middle District of Florida
On the recommendation of Senator Paula Hawkins, Sharp was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on November 1, 1983 to a seat vacated by Isaac Krentzman. Sharp was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on November 15, 1983 on a Senate vote and received commission on November 16, 1983. Sharp later assumed senior status on January 1, 2000. Sharp was succeeded in this position by John Antoon. Sharp's service ended on March 24, 2022, upon his death.[1]
