Edwin Kosik
Edwin Michael Kosik was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. He joined the court in 1986 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. He assumed senior status on July 15, 1996. Kosik's service officially ended on June 13, 2019, when he died.[1]
Early life and education
A native of Dupont, Pennsylvania, Kosik graduated from Wilkes College with his bachelor's degree in 1949 and from the Dickinson School of Law with his LL.B. in 1951.[2]
Military service
Kosik served in the U.S. Army as a corporal from 1943 to 1946 and as a colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve in 1975.[2]

Kosik was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on May 14, 1986, to a seat on the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania vacated by Malcolm Muir. Hearings on Kosik's nomination were held before the Senate Judiciary Committee on June 4, 1986, and his nomination was reported by U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond (R-S.C.) on June 12, 1986. Kosik was confirmed on a voice vote of the U.S. Senate on June 13, 1986, and he received his commission on June 16, 1986. Kosik elected to take senior status beginning on July 15, 1996.[2][3] Kosik was succeeded in this position by Yvette Kane.
Kosik's service officially ended on June 13, 2019, when he died.[1]
Noteworthy cases
"Cash for Kids" judge corruption trial (2009)
Judge Kosik presided in the trial of former Pennsylvania Court of Common Pleas judges Michael T. Conahan and Mark Civarella, who pleaded guilty of corruption and bribery charges. On July 31, 2009, Judge Kosik denied the plea agreement over reports from federal prosecutors that the two former judges engaged in obstruction of justice.[4]
