How to best connect game consoles, an AVR and an LG TV?
I'm about to upgrade my TV to an LG G4 and trying to understand which methodology of connection will provide the best results for picture quality of each source, as well as the least amount of headaches from technology issues. Should game consoles connect to my Denon AVR and then output to a singular HDMI port, or should I instead connect the consoles to their own HDMI ports on the TV, then use the HDMI2 eARC port on the TV to send the audio to the Denon AVR? TV Mount...with a twist.
I need to mount a 65" TV to the wall, but I need to find a mount that will allow me to do it off-center (so, the center of the TV is going to end up about a foot or so to the SIDE of where the mount is attached to the wall itself...but everything would still be flat against the wall...AND the mount would still be completely hidden behind the TV itself). I think I could probably use one of the mounts with an articulating arm, but I can't tell from descriptions whether any individual model would do what I need to do...does anyone have experience with specific model that you know would work for what I'm trying to do? Thanks in advance for your help!
Torture-Free Watch Guide for Game of Thrones or Outlander?
Loved one cannot watch torture but still wants shows. Doesthedogdie isn't granular enough: it tells *whether* things happen but not *when*. Is there any way to find a guide that will help them watch? [more inside]

What to watch this weekend?
Apple TV+ is doing a free weekend (1/4-1/5).
I know I'll watch "Severance," what else should I see?
What is HDclump
Looking to fulfill our cozy tv quota this holiday season (all repair shop episodes are on YouTube!) and when looking for Great British Sewing Bee (unavailable without a vpn) I came across HDclump, which appears to be a black market streaming service dedicated solely to homey BBC shows. Judging the Simpsons' ages by adding up Christmas episodes
Assuming there are X number of times the Simpsons have depicted different Christmases happening in the ostensible present (not by flashback), how many years would have gone by and how old would they be? Hold onto your well actuallys there are stipulations inside. [more inside]
Looking for website listing of movies upcoming on basic cable
Is there a free website that shows a list of all movies that will be showing on basic cable in the next couple of weeks? List format vs schedule format (ie, each movie is listed only once) would be preferred. Thanks!
Seen on Mhz way back in the Nordic noir day
I saw a Swedish police procedural on Mhz back in the 20 years ago days when Mhz was a public channel stateside. It was an episode of Sebastian Bergman if I recall correctly. A silent man sits on a bus stop bench. Two or three youths approach. A big knife is waved at him. Things do not end well for them. [more inside]
What TV show is as good as Slow Horses?
I just finished Slow Horses and am in mourning because I loved it so much and there were four seasons! What thriller/spy/mystery shows would I like? [more inside]
How to get Canadian television within PNW without cable
I live in Seattle. I know I can get CBC via Comcast (Xfinity). I don't have cable and don't want to sign up for it again. Are there specific ways to set up an antenna or other gadgetry to get Canadian/BC television without cable from the Seattle area? I have used antennas in the past but have not been able to get much more than a handful of local stations. Looking for specific answers as opposed to vague suggestions about VPNs, say, that streaming options appear to be able to defeat. Thanks.
What to watch next on Netflix?
I am looking for a series to watch on Netflix, or maybe free YouTube (absolutely no other services, etc.). Limited series is fine. Something too long and involved in not favored. Something lighter is preferred but not required. Some examples follow. [more inside]
Guide for watching election results come in
Is there a good guide online for how to watch and interpret the election results come in? Not so much where to watch the returns on TV, but more so things like what time all the state's polls close, which states and races are "ones to watch," bellwether results that may indicate how the election is going, or any other interesting stuff to look out for. Bonus points if there's a PDF I can fill out as the night rolls on, like a baseball scorecard!
In search of lost time
Give me books, stories, media, anecdotes, anything, about people who went through a long and protracted period (5 years to decades at least, the longer the better) of severe mental health that caused them to withdraw and isolate from life and society. Topics like dealing with the aftermath, coping with feelings, rebuilding, etc. [more inside]
Earliest film/tv example of the engineered super-spy/assassin trope?
I've been watching Hanna and now I'm wondering about the earliest example of an engineered spy/assassin training program in Film and/or TV. Think Bourne movies, Marvel's Black Widow program. Not a spy agency, plenty of those from the 60s... it's the chemical/genetic engineering plus the specialized training that's the key difference I'm after.
La Femme Nikita (1990) is the earliest I can come up with.
Please no books or comics.
I don't even know what a television is any more.
Our TV is old, and isn't showing blacks very well any more. I haven't even thought about TVs in 15 years. What do I need to know? [more inside]
Can anyone help ID this dimly recollected movie clip?
Hopefully this isn't too vague: in the late 80's/early 90's my dad taped Star Wars off've Canadian cable TV for us. At one point during the tape he switched channels by mistake and we saw a really creepy clip from a movie or TV show that's stuck with me for literally decades. If anyone has any ideas what it could be based on my recollection I'd be very grateful. Details inside... [more inside]
What is the best site to watch Olympic sports without commentary?
I'm in the US, but equipped with a computer and a VPN. The constant babbling and cutaways to athletes overcoming childhood traumas has prevented me from watching the Olympics in the past. Now, there are a lot of legal watching options: do any of them just let me watch sports without commentary?
Do you have a tv that you keep on a movable table?
I want to buy a tv. Due to an awkward living room space, I'd like to put the tv on a wheeled table and store it out of the way when it's not in use. But most tvs are very tall and thin and seem like they would fall over immediately if I tried to move them this way. [more inside]
Why did people in TV and movies stop wiping their faces?
In recent shows people don't wipe their faces after getting mud, dirt, blood, etc. on them. I'm in my 50s and this feels like a change. I remember watching the commentary on the Evil Dead DVD, in which Bruce Campbell talked about a "continuity wipe" where the actors would intentionally wipe their faces at the end of a scene so that when the movie was cut together, there wouldn't be obvious continuity problems. I noticed that other older shows did that too. What's changed? [more inside]
Tell me everything you know about The Muppet Show!
I just discovered The Muppet Show and would appreciate more context for what, exactly, this odd and wonderful thing is. Specific questions below the fold. [more inside]
(TV) pilots, please
I'd like to watch a bunch of TV pilot episodes — without any intention of watching the rest of the show. Kind of like a big sample platter of appetizers. Can you think of any great pilot episodes that stand out to you, and capture the promise and the strengths of their show? [more inside]
TV show with an episode with a mechanical ram subplot help!
A long long time ago, if my memory serves me well (well, I was a kid at the time), I seem to recall watching a fictional TV show (which I think was American and I think was a late 80s or early 90s detective series) that as part of a particular episode's subplot featured a door and a mechanical ram! Where to find "Brat Farrar" BBC Mini-Series?
The "Brat Farrar" BBC mini-series was broadcast within Masterpiece Mystery! on PBS in the 1980s. As far as we can tell, it has never been put on DVD professionally or on streaming. There are bootleg copies available but not good quality. We have a copy recorded on VHS but it would be nice to get a higher quality version. Does this exist? If so, where can we find it? finding an easy-to-use, modest-budget tv for seniors
Older relatives in the USA need a new TV ASAP. Probably looking for something in the 42" to 50" range based on viewing distance. I offered to do some research for them, but I haven't purchased a TV since 2008, apparently they're all terrible now? I'd be grateful for any advice on what I should be looking for or specific recommendations. [more inside]
"Talky" sitcoms that you can listen to without watching
I've just discovered audio described TV. Can anyone recommend sitcoms or comedy-drama TV shows you've watched that are dialogue-heavy, don't rely too much on visuals, and might translate well into this format? No need to have seen an actual audio described version of the show to answer! I'm just looking for suggestions to try. [more inside]
Does the Fallout show get less gross?
I'm about 2/3 of the way through the first episode of Fallout (no prior knowledge about the games) and the story is interesting, but it's unbelievably violent. Is this a "brutal inception of the hero", or is it like this the whole way through?
I can handle some violence but the story has to be the main thing. For reference, I enjoyed the Last of Us but thought the final rampage was stupid, and I would have enjoyed something like Game of Thrones way more *without* the HBO sex and gore corporate mandate.
Is this show just for gun-totin' bros? Thanks!
Korean Cooking Show
I'm trying to find a Korean cooking show I saw about 10 years ago and not having any luck finding anything via Google. I saw it on an Australian TV channel (don't remember which one - possibly it was SBS) but it was definitely filmed in Korea and the English title was something like "Cooking With Mrs Choi". Trying to find a specific type of TV stand, no clue if it exists
TLDR is I am imagining a stand that can easily rise up high, but also go down low. It would have wheels, so that you could sort of "bring it out" from out from under somewhere, adjust it to a nice viewing height, then easily "collapse" it and roll it back to where you store it [more inside]

What's good on daytime TV these days?
I'm taking looooong flights in the US this weekend with an Airline that provides access to Live TV. I haven't had Live TV in 10 years. I'll be traveling during the daytime hours on both Saturday and Sunday - let's say 9am-10pm ET. Any good talk shows these days? A new Judge Judy? Soaps not to miss? I realize the weekends are different - are there still Saturday morning cartoons? [more inside]
Accessible TV for senior with Parkinsons?
I’d like to get a TV so my senior with Parkinsons can watch Netflix and Amazon movies. Are there any brands that work best with voice recognition? Are there other adaptive devices I should know about like types or remotes? They don’t have Alexa or Echo, but that seems like a potentially good solution.
How are K-Dramas different from typical Western serial TV?
We love K-Dramas. Hotel Del Luna, Mr Queen, Mystic Pop-Up Bar, Uncanny Counter, Dr. Cha, etc etc etc. I'm having a hard time putting into words how they differ from typical Western series, and why we find them so much more appealing. Do you have notions about what makes K-Dramas more unique, enjoyable and compelling? And .... what are your favourite series?
Which streaming device has the least onerous terms of use?

Does this kind of not-a-TV TV exist?
My primary method of watching shows (a 17” MacBook Pro) has recently aged out of the OS the main streaming sites require. I don’t follow tech advancements, but I know many of you do! What are my options when I want something in the realm of 17-20” that I can put away when not in use? [more inside]
Memoryholed Film - asking to speak to "The Manager"
In this movie, which may have been a made-for-tv movie, a character is at a place of lodging in the tropics (aloha shirts and the like) and asks to speak to the manager, to which the clerk at the counter pulls out a shotgun that has "The Manager" elaborately carved into the buttstock and sticks it into the character's face.
Any ideas on the movie in question? [more inside]
How to only sometimes use a TV as an extended computer display

Where to start reading The Peripheral if you've seen the TV series?
I enjoyed the (sadly cancelled) Peripheral streaming series. I've read and enjoyed some of Gibson's other books, but I haven't read The Peripheral or The Agency. Since the series was cancelled I'd like to finish the story. Is there a solid spot in the book to pick up where the first/only season left off, or does it diverge enough from the book that I might as well start from the beginning? [more inside]
