I want to make a documentary
I have video footage and photographs that I want to use to make a documentary about a certain part of my life. It's a personal project and I don't have any intention to release the resulting film, but I would like to make it as well as I possibly can. I envisage working on this documentary to be my hobby for the next few years. [more inside]
Please Metawan Hivenobi, you're my only hope.

Straightforward Documentary Podcasts
I'm in the middle of Operation: Tradebom and looking to find similar podcasts. I love this podcast since it has a unsentimental narrator, slickly produced (has actors playing transcripts, sound effects), covers a moment in history and has great interviews. I abhor podcasts with a couple people talking and making comments, so please none of those.

Need help finding reference to documentary about a financial scammer
My Google-fu is failing me badly. About a week ago, I read a description of a docuseries (or maybe it was a documentary movie). Now I can't find the website I was reading. I've checked my browser history, and I've done repeated Google searches. I got nothing. [more inside]
Documentary on the tenor change of the GOP?
I came across a clip from the Reagan/Bush presidential debates and it was staggering how much they sounded like “centrist” Democrats. That’s the Republicanism of my youth (Gen-X). Has anyone put together a sequence of how the messaging has evolved (especially with the impact of Fox News’ arrival) and the extremely tenor shift of GOP messaging and tactics? Happy for anything that collates similar material relative to the Democrats.
1970s documentary: competition to explain perpetual motion wheel?
I'm looking for a particular documentary about a competition between two groups of students who were tasked with determining what was the mechanism behind an apparently perpetually spinning wheel. It has completely evaded my Google-Fu, which makes me think that some of my memories must be faulty. Here are the faulty memories: [more inside]

Who was this male photographer featured in a documentary film?
His iconic photos included a woman in a motel room with a baby lying on a bed, a winter night at an intersection in a small town, and a woman in a room filled with water. Searching on photographer documentaries hasn't produced it yet.

About how many spoken words are there in a typical 2-hour documentary?
OK, so I know this is unanswerable as posed in the headline, so if you want to answer the question "How many spoken words are there in the documentary if we average the figure from your 3 favorite Michael Moore/Errol Morris documentaries," that's OK. I'm trying to make notes/plans for a documentary, and I'm realizing that it would be helpful to try to get a ballpark idea of how many spoken words I should shoot for in it. Is there an easy way to measure how many spoken words are in any film at all?

Looking for a '70s-era futurist documentary
I'm racking my brain trying to come up with the name of a documentary, I believe from the '70s although it could have been from the early '80s, in which futurists were asked for their predictions. I remember them saying that the most valuable assets in the future would be drugs (in the sense of performance-enhancing, I think) and information. It's not Future Shock. [more inside]
So... how would we make a documentary?
I work with a small but passionate activism nonprofit in the Rust Belt. Our work, and the work of the coalitions we belong to, is getting some press in progressive circles around the US. I think our org, our partners, and the issues we are tackling (progressive but not necessarily political, focused on human rights) would make for a pretty good documentary. I have a very loose understanding of how movies get made, but no experience anywhere near the industry. Can you help me think of things I should be thinking about? [more inside]
Documentaries about Area 51 for kids
Can you suggest documentaries about Area 51 and associated phenomena that would be suitable for a bright (nearly) eight-year-old? help me realize (the name of this video)
so i used to have this video file. i used it for test footage all the time. it was something like 45 minutes long maybe? here's what i remember: it was some kind of older documentary about indigenous/aboriginal people in a celebration of some sort. i believe it may have been a famous or important sort of file. perhaps because this special celebration they were having... maybe it have never been filmed before or something? And i recall them all wearing the same kind/color of red-orange (maybe) cloth. they start out kind of sitting in a circle outside, lots of trees around. eventually they are up and dancing and singing. i really wish i remembered more. Name this TV show
There was a TV show in the 90s about a guy who lived in a house by himself for 30 days and could only use the internet to support himself - groceries, clothes, food, etc. We thought it was a radical idea at the time and it was heavily criticized - what was it called? - thanks!
