finding well-written, likeable TV series ON DVD?
How can I find really great TV shows available on DVD, that I can get through my library - or suggest to my library as a new purchase? [more inside]
Help me find this (detective?) show!
All we know is bits of the trailer and my mom is desperate to see it but didn't get the title or network. It has a vibe like the quirky detective shows that USA produced from about 2000-2010, but it seems to be new-ish. A man says something like "I can solve this case in ten minutes flat." The guy is arrogant or not clued into social cues in some way. Cut to a woman saying "That guy's an asshole." A woman who seems to be a professional colleague says, "Yeah, but he's legit hot." Any ideas?
TV shows with non-ordinary settings and characters
My college-age daughter wants to find a new TV show to get into, or maybe a fiction podcast, and she wanted me to see if you guys could offer any good ideas. She’s not interested in anything set in the ordinary real world, especially not high school. Apocalypse or post-apocalypse, dystopia, or science fiction would be great. The main thing she looks for in a show is at least one character she really likes. Her favorite characters tend to be outsiders who are quirky or different in some way and also very competent at something. [more inside]
What series should we watch next?

Googling "cult movies" does not help
I really loved "Midsommar" and am now really enjoying a horror novel about a fictional religious cult. Are there other movies/shows/books about "creepy stuff that happens in cults"? (It has to be fiction though. I don't want to watch anything about real people getting hurt.) Thanks!
Help me find TV/movies featuring smart, capable, complicated women
Hello! I just watched Unbelievable and was unexpectedly blown away and deeply, deeply satisfied by the relationship between the two lead detectives, played by Toni Collette and Merritt Wever. I had not known I was hungry for portrayals of women being awesomely competent, but apparently I am. So I am seeking more of that. Looking for TV shows and movies that I can binge-watch during the pandemic, that feature one or more smart, capable, ideally morally-complicated female characters in their thirties or older. Doesn't need to be workplace-centred, could be home/family, or something else. [more inside]
Why are there no song credits in TV shows?
Movies always have full credits for the songs they use. US TV shows (typically) don't. Why? [more inside]
In Search of Space Hippies
I'm looking for (preferably) science fiction TV shows or movies that include hippies. Especially looking for "protagonists go back in time to Woodstock" or similar, but will happily also accept "dressed up as hippies for costume party" or just "hitched a ride with some hippies." I'm already aware of Star Trek, SG1, and Legends of Tomorrow. [more inside]
TV Recommendations for the Easily Distracted
Looking for TV show recommendations that are either really engaging right off the bat or really short (think either mini-serial or only has 1-2 seasons released to date). Something I can binge watch.
I like drama, period drama, true-crime series, thrillers, Nordic noir, and also comedy and comedy-drama. But I do not have the time or inclination or attention span to watch something that requires a lot of time or attention investment, so nothing where I have to catch up on more than 3 seasons (i.e. Orange is the New Black, Wentworth) or that requires a lot of time to build up the story arc or jokes (i.e. Arrested Development). So really, I'm looking for something I can binge watch in a weekend, like a mini-series or a one to two season drama. [more inside]
What are the best Black TV shows to watch?
I've realized that I have fallen completely out of touch with Black TV over the last couple decades but I just read the hollywoodreporter article on Kenya Barris, the creator of Blackish, and he mentioned being a writer on 'The Game' and I had never heard of it so I looked it up and it is definitely something I would at least try.
What else should I queue up? [more inside]
Mildly engaging tv drama?

How do I light a DIY TV show?
I'm working on a late night talk show to be filmed in my apartment. I'm not sure of what to purchase in terms of lighting. I've seen lots of lighting "kits" on Amazon for <$200 but I'm not sure of (A) which kits will best suit my needs and (B) how to light a traditional talk show set (desk, guest chairs, backdrop, and...well, that's it.).

Looking for positive TV shows that are streaming online
I've been trying to find shows to watch streaming (Netflix US or Amazon Prime) that are interesting and entertaining without being cynical, negative, and/or over-the-top violent and gory, after realizing a lot of things I had been watching were pretty dark. Does anyone have any recommendations? [more inside]

And Mendel Hagler as "Alf's cousin"
In my youth, I remember occasionally reading about contests where you'd win a cameo on a TV show. Were these real and did people get to do that? Did anyone famous come out of it? Is there an online archive of the contest winners somewhere where you can watch their acting?
Childfree-positive movies?
Are there any childfree-positive movies or TV shows, i.e., where the protagonists 1) do not have children, 2) explicitly do not want children, 3) are reasonably happy with their choice, and 4) do not change their minds by the end of the story? Great American Dream Machine nostalgia
Do any of you remember a PBS show, late 60's early 70's called The Great American Dream Machine? The last show had a segment about FBI involvement in bombings and fires on university campuses, presumably to justify on campus investigations by the FBI. By the next week this show was canceled. A very early leak of what later became COINTELPRO.
It was a favorite of mine, any one here remember it?
