White Sox's Juan Carela: Added to 40-man roster
The White Sox selected Carela's contract from Double-A Birmingham on Tuesday, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.
Acquired from the Yankees in 2023 in the Keynan Middleton trade, Carela posted a 3.71 ERA and 114:45 K:BB across 106.2 innings covering 23 starts between High-A Winston-Salem and Birmingham in 2024. Just seven of those outings came at the latter affiliate, and he could return to that level to start 2025.

White Sox's Colson Montgomery: Joins 40-man roster
The White Sox selected Montgomery's contract from Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.
Montgomery slashed only .214/.329/.381 with 18 home runs and a 28.6 percent strikeout rate this season at Charlotte, although at 22 (he'll turn 23 in February), he was quite young for that level. He could use some more seasoning, but with a fast start next season, Montgomery could push to see time at shortstop with the big club.

White Sox's Austin Slater: Signs on with ChiSox
The White Sox agreed to a major-league contract with Slater on Monday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
There's no word yet on the terms, but it figures to be a modest, one-year contract. Slater slashed just .188/.310/.231 against left-handed pitching in 2024 but is a career .271/.364/.429 hitter versus southpaws. He'll likely serve in a short-side platoon role in Chicago, perhaps in right field with the left-handed hitting Dominic Fletcher.

White Sox's Alexander Albertus: Has surgery on fractured leg
Albertus underwent surgery Wednesday to reset a fractured left tibia, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.
Albertus suffered the injury in July and needed the operation since his recovery didn't go as well as hoped. The White Sox still expect the 20-year-old to be ready for spring training. Albertus was acquired from the Dodgers in a three-team deal involving the Cardinals in July.

White Sox's Justin Dunn: Gets minors deal from White Sox
The White Sox signed Dunn to a minor-league contract Friday that includes an invitation to spring training, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.
Dunn had a showcase for teams last month and evidently looked good enough to earn a camp invite from the White Sox. The 29-year-old didn't pitch at all in 2024 and threw just 3.1 rehab innings in 2023 due to a right shoulder injury which eventually required surgery. Dunn holds a career 4.44 ERA and 113:86 K:BB over 133.2 innings covering parts of four big-league seasons.

White Sox's Penn Murfee: Claimed by White Sox
The White Sox claimed Murfee (elbow) off waivers from the Astros on Monday.
Murfee had Tommy John surgery in July of 2023 and was pulled off his rehab assignment in 2024 after just one appearance due to elbow soreness, although he was facing hitters again by the end of the season. The 30-year-old posted a 2.70 ERA and 92:28 K:BB over 83.1 innings with the Mariners from 2022-23, so it could be a sneaky waiver claim by the White Sox if Murfee can stay healthy.
