  • Angels' Samuel Aldegheri: Out with finger blister

The Angels placed Aldegheri on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to a blister on his left middle finger.

The 23-year-old surrendered four earned runs over two innings during his third MLB start Saturday, and he won't be eligible to return from the IL before the end of the season. Aldegheri had a 3.60 ERA in two starts with Double-A Reading after being acquired by the Angels ahead of the summer trade deadline, and he posted a 4.85 ERA, 1.92 WHIP and 10:10 K:BB over 13 frames in his first taste of the big leagues. The left-hander should have a chance to crack the Angels' starting rotation coming out of spring training, but he could also begin the campaign in the minors given he has yet to see action at the Triple-A level.

  • Angels' Samuel Aldegheri: Rocked by Astros

Aldegheri (1-2) took the loss Friday as the Angels fell 5-3 to the Astros, giving up four runs on six hits and five walks over two-plus innings. He failed to strike out a batter.

After recording his first career win and first quality start in his last outing, Aldegheri crashed back to Earth with a thud. The southpaw threw only 26 of 53 pitches for strikes before getting the hook, and when he did get the ball over the plate it was hit hard -- two-run homer from Alex Bregman helped chase Aldegheri from the game in the third inning. The Angels are essentially holding auditions for their 2025 rotation over the final weeks, so the 22-year-old will keep his spot, but he isn't building a strong case. Aldegheri will take a 4.85 ERA and 10:10 K:BB through his first 13 big-league innings into his next start, which is scheduled to be a rematch with the Astros back in Houston next week.

  • Angels' Samuel Aldegheri: Collects first career win

Aldegheri (1-1) earned the win in Friday's 5-1 victory over Texas, allowing one run on three hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out seven.

The Italian rookie cruised to his first big-league victory, generating 14 whiffs en route to his seven punchouts. The only run Aldegheri yielded came via an Adolis Garcia sacrifice fly in the sixth inning, as the Rangers couldn't manage to get an extra-base hit off the southpaw. After his first two starts, Aldegheri's ERA stands at 2.45 to go with a 1.27 WHIP and 10:5 K:BB across 11 innings. With this performance, the 23-year-old should stick in the rotation and projects to make his next start against the Astros at home next weekend.

  • Angels' Samuel Aldegheri: Making another start

Aldegheri is scheduled to start Friday's game against the Rangers in Arlington.

The rookie will receive a second turn through the rotation after he served up seven runs -- but only two earned -- in five innings while taking a loss in his MLB debut this past Friday versus Seattle. Prior to his promotion to the majors, Aldegheri posted pedestrian numbers over his five starts at Double-A Rocket City (5.19 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 25:9 K:BB in 17.1 innings). The 22-year-old southpaw doesn't profile as much more than a streaming option for strikeouts.

  • Angels' Samuel Aldegheri: Let down by defense in debut

Aldegheri (0-1) allowed seven runs (two earned) on six hits, two walks and two hit batsmen while striking out three over five innings to take the loss versus the Mariners on Friday.

Aldegheri's first inning in the majors was nightmarish, as a two-out error by Zach Neto allowed the Mariners to assemble a five-run rally. Aldegheri settled in fine after that, but a two-run home run by Julio Rodriguez in the fourth would tack the first earned runs onto his line. The 22-year-old southpaw struggled to a 5.19 ERA over 17.1 innings at Double-A Rocket City after he was traded from the Phillies to the Angels in the Carlos Estevez swap. It's unclear if Aldegheri will make another start after this uninspiring debut -- if he does, he's lined up for a road outing versus the Rangers next week.

  • Angels' Samuel Aldegheri: Contract selected ahead of debut

The Angels selected Aldegheri's contract from Double-A Rocket City ahead of his start Friday against the Mariners.

Aldegheri will make his major-league debut Friday after splitting his time this season between High-A and Double-A, during which he recorded 134 strikeouts over 95.1 innings. The 22-year-old southpaw was acquired by the Angels in late July as part of the trade package sending Carlos Estevez to the Phillies. Aldegheri will take the spot in the Angels' starting rotation vacated by Carson Fulmer, who was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday due to right elbow inflammation.

  • Angels' Samuel Aldegheri: Set to make MLB debut Friday

Aldegheri will be called up from Double-A Rocket City to make his major-league debut Friday against the Mariners, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Aldegheri was acquired from the Phillies at the trade deadline in the deal that sent reliever Carlos Estevez to Philadelphia. The promotion is an aggressive one for the left-hander, who has made just six starts at the Double-A level, but he has recorded 134 strikeouts over 95.1 innings between High-A and Double-A in 2024. Aldegheri will presumably get a chance to make additional starts with the Angels if he pitches well in his MLB debut.

  • Angels' Samuel Aldegheri: Dealt to Halos

The Angels acquired Aldegheri and right-hander George Klassen from the Phillies on Saturday in exchange for right-hander Carlos Estevez, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Aldegheri was promoted to Double-A Reading in early July and made a pair of starts, logging a 3.60 ERA with a 14:4 K:BB in 10 innings. The 22-year-old lefty immediately becomes one of the Angels' top pitching prospects and will likely report to their Double-A affiliate at Rocket City.

  • Phillies' Samuel Aldegheri: Moves up to Double-A

The Phillies promoted Aldegheri from High-A Jersey Shore to Double-A Reading on Tuesday.

He made his Double-A debut three days later, taking the loss in a start against Akron after striking out eight over five innings while allowing four runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks. The 22-year-old lefty joined the Reading rotation after dazzling over his 13 starts at the High-A level, where he turned in a 3.18 ERA and 1.06 WHIP while striking out 94 batters over 68 innings.
