2016

Brabenec's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Agriculture

  • New York needs its family farms, and I will be proud to be an advocate for our farmers, so that the generations of work that have gone into this precious resource will be continued for generations to come.

Albany Reform

  • I’m running to change the vulture culture in the state capital. And I know how to do it–I re-established the Ethics Committee in my own Town of Deerpark, because no one should be allowed to use a position of public trust for private gain.

Education

  • Common Core should be a set of recommendations, not a straitjacket for our schools. Instead of forcing its costly mandates on our communities, let’s dedicate those resources to equipping our classrooms with the best technology and rewarding our teachers for excellence. And let’s give families the choice of where to send their kids to school. Charter schools work. They should be encouraged, not thwarted. No child should be denied the opportunity for a great education because of where they live or their family circumstances. It’s time to put our children’s needs first.

Job Creation

  • We can grow our economy and jobs all across New York—if we use our common sense and cut the red tape and the taxes, the way we’ve done in Deerpark. Albany needs to tighten its belt, live on a sensible budget, work smarter, and stop throwing obstacles in the way of hiring—and I know how to make it happen!

Second Amendment

  • The Second Amendment guarantees that our government will respect the right of law-abiding citizens to own firearms, and, as a strong supporter of the NRA, I will proudly uphold the Second Amendment.[8]
—Karl Brabenec[9]

2014

Brabenec's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[10]

Tax Relief

  • Excerpt: "Albany needs to do less with more, set reasonable budgets, and work smarter–and pass the savings on to our taxpayers to spend, save, and invest here in our communities."

Job Creation

  • Excerpt: "We can grow our economy and jobs all across New York—if we use our common sense and cut the red tape and the taxes, the way we’ve done in Deerpark. Albany needs to tighten its belt, live on a sensible budget, work smarter, and stop throwing obstacles in the way of hiring—and I know how to make it happen!"

Agriculture

  • Excerpt: "New York needs its family farms, and I will be proud to be an advocate for our farmers, so that the generations of work that have gone into this precious resource will be continued for generations to come."

Second Amendment

  • Excerpt: "The SAFE Act will not only fail to protect our citizens from violent crime, it will actually divert resources away from where they should go to provide that protection: increasing the presence of police and safety officers in at-risk areas; enhanced resources for our families and communities to deal with mental illness; and programs to get guns out of the hands of actual criminals."

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in New York

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Click here for an overview of legislative scorecards in all 50 states.  To contribute to the list of New York scorecards, email suggestions to editor@ballotpedia.org.
