Gozu (Japanese: ゴズ Gozu) is a recurring character in Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon. He is a member of Team Rocket, being part of the elite unit known as the Matori Matrix.

History

Gozu's Key Stone

Gozu first appeared in Filling the Light with Darkness!, where he and the rest of the Matori Matrix were sent to the Alola region by Giovanni. He was first seen aboard a helicopter alongside Matori as it approached Alola. At that moment, Giovanni contacted them for a briefing on their progress. After Matori completed the call, she asked Gozu if they would arrive in Alola soon, and when he confirmed that they would, she had him give the order to activate their craft's cloaking device.

In Full Moon and Many Arms!, the Matori Matrix arrived in Alola, but were left lethargic due to Necrozma draining Ultra Aura from the adults around the region. Despite this, when they encountered Necrozma in its Dawn Wings form, they managed to trap it inside an electrified net before it shortly broke out. The unit briefly retreated, only to return and attack Lunala and Nebby using laser cannons on their aircraft while the pair recuperated on the beach of Melemele Island. They ensnared Lunala and Nebby in another electrified net, but it was soon destroyed by Gladion's Silvally and Ash's Pikachu. Nebby retaliated by hitting the aircraft with Flash Cannon, forcing them to retreat again. Later, after Necrozma possessed Nebby, turned into Dusk Mane Necrozma, and fled through an Ultra Wormhole, Gozu and the rest of the unit were rejuvenated and continued their mission.

In The Prism Between Light and Darkness!, Gozu and the rest of the Matori Matrix witnessed the Ultra Guardians and Lunala head inside an Ultra Wormhole and attempted to pursue them, only to be stopped by Professor Kukui and Faba. Gozu, along with several Team Rocket Grunts, headed down to Ten Carat Hill to face the duo. There, Gozu used his Mega Aggron to easily defeat Kukui's Braviary and Faba's Hypno and Alakazam.

In Securing the Future!, Professor Kukui was able to defeat Gozu's Aggron with Incineroar. Upon learning that repairs to the aircraft were complete, he returned there and had it head into the Ultra Wormhole. However, the aircraft was attacked by Tapu Koko, forcing the Matori Matrix to retreat.

Character

Gozu is a very serious and competent person. However, he tends to wear an eyepatch over his right eye, despite the fact that there is nothing physically wrong with said eye. Gozu also has a very close bond with his Aggron, allowing it to Mega Evolve. In addition, he has a rational mindset; in The Prism Between Light and Darkness!, he knew better than to pursue the Ultra Guardians through the Ultra Wormhole after the airship had been damaged.

Aggron is Gozu's only known Pokémon. It can Mega Evolve into a Mega Aggron with its Aggronite. It was first seen when Gozu sent it out to battle Professor Kukui and Faba, during which it easily defeated their Pokémon with a single Heavy Slam. It reappeared in Securing the Future!, where it was defeated by Kukui's Incineroar.

Aggron's known moves are Heavy Slam and Flash Cannon.
