Winnipeg Monarchs

The Winnipeg Monarchs are a team that spanned many decades over many leagues and are one of the oldest teams from Winnipeg.

Way back in 1906, the team was founded as a group of students who played youth hockey. Over the years, the team aged up and joined the Winnipeg Amateur Hockey League in 1910 and played exhibition games in the United States. In the 1913-14 season, the team won the WAHL and was chose to represent the league in the Allan Cup. They would beat the Kenora Thistles and lose to the Regina Victorias in the final.  This version of the team originally had a purple and white color scheme and would play through the mid-1930s.

In 1930, the a junior team named the Monarchs would start play in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League with a blue and white color scheme that we are celebrating with the apparel offerings here. This version of the Monarchs lasted through 1976 and were Memorial Cup champions three times; 1935, 1937 and 1946. The team also won 10 Turnbull Cups as MJHL champions, with the last coming in 1957. While the team was dominant for much of its early life, they struggled in the standings in the 1970s. Eventually, the team was sold and relocated to Oak Bluff, Manitoba and renamed the Fort Garry Blues.  

The Monarchs had a number of different jersey designs and logos over the years, many times with a large 'W' or 'M' on them. We've created two original designs that pay homage to the Monarchs and their logo and colour scheme.
