Chicago Cheetahs
During the early 1990s, the Chicago Cheetahs were a RHI club that only lasted for two seasons before folding ('93-'95). They launched at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), and then moved on to the Odeum Expo Center in Villa Park, Illinois. The team had a very distinct 90s logo, which featured a picture of a cheetah superimposed over an orange splash. The whole thing gave off the impression that it was taken from an advertisement from the 1990s for a beverage that had way much too much sugar added to it.
The Cheetahs' two seasons of play resulted in very ordinary on-ice performances, with records of 12-10 and then 10-12-2 respectively. They did have former NHL player Al Secord as a guest star in an effort to win over the support of the local hockey community. Before making his comeback to play for the Cheetahs and scoring 25 points over the course of 18 games, Secord had been retired for the previous four years. After that, he would try to make a comeback on the ice and play for the Chicago Wolves for the following two seasons when he was already in his late 30s.
As was the case with the vast majority of roller teams competing throughout the 1990s, the Cheetahs struggled with attendance, changed venues, and disbanded rather rapidly.
