New Orleans Brass
The New Orleans Brass began their run at Municipal Auditorium in 1997-98. They were one of seven hockey teams that began in Louisiana in the mid-1990s, when communities around the state participated in the gulf states' hockey boom.
During its five seasons, the Brass had a fairly consistent record, winning between 30 and 36 games every season. Each year, the squad would make the playoffs, with their finest run coming in 1999, when they advanced all the way to the third round. Kevin Colley, Jesse Boulerice, and Gordie Dwyer were among the Brass members that made the big league.
The Brass relocated to New Orleans Arena in 1999. Unfortunately, a disagreement over the cost of transforming the facility from basketball to hockey would lead to the team's demise in 2002. Only one of the original seven Louisiana clubs that began play in 1995-97 remains in the state today.
