Flint Generals

The Flint Generals™ joined the IHL in 1969-70, giving it an eight-team league for the first time in roughly 10 years. Their first season was difficult, with only 21 victories and missing the playoffs, but from there they never looked back. For the rest of their existence, until 1984-85, the Generals would win at least 30 games and make the playoffs every season. That's 16 out of 17 campaigns with a playoff appearance. However, winning the IHL championship would be far more difficult. They were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs several times and endured the whole of the 1970s without winning an IHL championship. After sweeping the Toledo Goaldiggers in 1981, a 41-win Generals squad coached by Dennis Desrosiers, with 103 points from both Bernie Gallant and Jeff Pyle, would eventually bring home a Turner Cup to Flint. Despite two more 43-win seasons following the championship victory, the Generals would depart town and relocate to neighboring Saginaw, where they would play for four seasons before dissolving. Flint, however, did not go without hockey, as the Flint Spirits took their place.

From 1993 through 2010, the Generals were reborn as a UHL and IHL franchise, winning league titles in 1996 and 2000.
