Seeking someone for minor home repairs in NYC

I'm looking for someone with the skills and tools to perform some minor home repairs in my 2 BR Manhattan apartment—stuff like replacing some outlet covers, hanging a mirror, some small paint touch-ups, etc. I'm interested either direct recommendations, or sites where I can find someone. (I'm not interested in any DIY tips, though.) Thanks!

MRI in NYC

I need to obtain an MRI of my shoulder (which I dislocated and fractured) along with an injection of contrast dye. I am in New York City. Can you recommend a location? Most places seem to have very poor reviews online, especially from patients who also required a dye injection. I have insurance. Thanks.

Kosher delis in New York City

Please recommend to me your favorite *kosher* delis in New York City. I'm specifically looking for restaurants that are certified as kosher and serve classics like pastrami and corned beef (like Second Ave. Deli and Pastrami Queen), not those that call themselves "kosher-style" or just "Jewish" delis (such as Katz's). Anywhere in the five boroughs is great. Thanks!

Where to dance to 80s music in NYC?

I love dancing to 80s (and 90s) music, but with Culture Club now closed, I'm not sure where to go in New York City. Are there any new dance places that are devoted to 80s/90s music, or that have "80s nights"? Thanks!

"Underground" comedy shows in NYC?

I'm interested in comedy shows in NYC that take place outside the big mainstream venues like Caroline's or Gotham Comedy Club. For lack of a better term, you might call what I'm looking for "underground" comedy shows, but I'm not construing that term narrowly. Just really looking to get away from the more touristy spots that seem to often feature bland acts. Edgier/off-beat stuff welcome. Thanks for your ideas!

Dining out in NYC when you're rocking a corset

I recently bought a corset for a friend of mine. She looks killer drop-dead amazing gorgeous in it. We'd like to go out to dinner somewhere in NYC where such attire would be both appreciated and fit in. (She'll probably pair it with pants—nothing fetish-y. I'll do my level best to look sharp, but I can hardly compete.) All suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Help me mix & match my new clothes!

I just purchased a bunch of new clothing at Theory, which is definitely a much hipper store than I'm used to shopping at. (My old standby was Banana Republic.) The sales staff was very helpful, and I'm very pleased with what I came home with, but I'd love some help in mixing and matching everything. Photos of (almost) all of the items I bought can be found here. [more inside]

NYC bar for a Saturday night gathering

Seeking an NYC bar for a gathering of around eight people in their mid-to-late 30s. Requirements: quiet enough to talk; spacious enough that we can all congregate in one spot or will take reservations; in downtown Manhattan (roughly speaking); reasonably accessible by subway a big plus. Difficulty: event planned for a Saturday night, around 8 PM, and I don't expect everyone to show up at the same time (which makes reservations tricky). Thanks!

Beer bars in NYC

I'd like to go to a beer bar in Manhattan this weekend. I've always liked Zum Schneider but want to try some place different. Prefer a place that's typically not too crowded on a Saturday around 6pm (that seems early enough to avoid crowds, right?); quiet enough to talk; and ideally, which also has good food. Thanks!

Where to buy — and test — knives in NYC

Seeking suggestions for good stores in NYC to buy high-quality kitchen knives where you can test them out before purchasing. Even if they don't let you actually cut or chop anything, are there places that at least let you hold the knives in your hand, to get a sense of the grip/feel/weight, etc.? Thanks!

Good bars in Williamsburg, Brooklyn

Seeking a good bar or bars in Williamsburg, Brooklyn for this Saturday night. We're a group of about eight (for a decidedly non-rowdy bachelor party), and we'll be wrapping up dinner at Cubana Socíal (N. 6th & Wythe) at around 10:30 or so. We'd love to head to a place somewhere within reasonable walking distance that's fairly low key, not overpriced, not terribly loud, and (this is the holy grail, right?) not super-crowded. I'd be grateful for any recommendations. Thank you!

"Activity" places for a bachelor party in NYC

Recommendations for good bachelor party "activity"-type places in NYC. Not looking for debauchery—right now, we're considering something like Brooklyn Bowl and/or Barcade. Thinking along those lines or pool/darts, that sort of thing, but also interested in other ideas. Manhattan or Brooklyn. [more inside]

Where to eat next in NYC?

Where to go for dinner next in NYC? I'm a lifelong New Yorker and love going out to eat. However, I feel like I'm in bit of a rut, mostly returning to neighborhood reliables and a handful of other favorite restaurants around the city. The wealth of information about NYC restaurants out there is pretty daunting, so I'm hoping for some direction from the hivemind. Some more details inside. [more inside]

Don't Put Anything on My Fish

NYC restaurant filter: Taking an elderly, out-of-town couple (that we don't know well) out to dinner. Bars on the Upper East Side of Manhattan

NYC filter: Looking for a bar on the Upper East Side (preferably east 80s/90s) which can accomodate a group of ~50-70. My high school class is having its 15th reunion, which will start off at our school and then progress to an after-party at a bar at around 9/9:30pm on a Friday in June. So a private room would work, as would a bigger bar which could simply accomodate a mass influx. Anything from divey to schmancy is a possibility. Thanks!
