A nice, no-seafood dinner in Tokyo?

My spouse and I will be in Tokyo soon and we'd like to go out for a nice dinner. By nice I mean not insanely expensive but maybe ~$75 each. Big caveat: no seafood, and reasonable confidence of no cross-contamination. [more inside]

What is the best food in in the WORLD in Brooklyn?

I'm not saying what's something that #27 on a world pizza list. Or really good coffee. I mean what's a food in a specific niche, that's generally, if not universally acknowledged to be the best there is on the planet AND it's in the borough of Brooklyn? Restaurant OR grocery OR food manufacturer.

Where in Stockholm should I eat Kalix löjrom?

While in Stockholm I'd like to try Kalix löjrom (vendace roe from Bothnian Bay), since it seems like the ideal time of year for it. I'd prefer this to be at a restaurant. I could buy a small jar or tin, but wouldn't have the means to prepare it properly at a hotel and it sounds like it needs to be kept frozen if I want to bring it back home (not going to be possible). So far all I've heard is that it's served at 'nicer restaurants'. Does anyone have specific recommendations?

Give me your best treat but not break the bank Toronto sushi

My favourite sushi place closed before the pandemic. I need a new sushi place. Tonight. I want to spend, at most $80-$100, per person, but certainly would not complain about spending less. I do not want omakase. I do not want wine. I just want great, fresh, perfect fish. Downtown or west preferred. Also happy to hear your less splurgy favourites places for more regular take-out use. Why are some cuisines more popular than others?

I'm researching different cities, mostly in Europe and North America, and when looking at international restaurants (relative to the country I'm looking at), I find the same cuisines show up all the time, no matter the city. Chinese, Italian, Japanese, Vietnamese, even frequently Brazilian, seem ubiquitous. A lot more inside (including more about food representation in cities than you thought you wanted to know). Restaurant in New Haven, CT that served sandwiches with fries on them

I'm trying to recall a restaurant in New Haven, Connecticut, near (or near-ish) to the Yale campus that served sandwiches with french fries on the sandwich. This woulda been in the mid-to-late 90s. Anyone else remember this spot? And if so, is it still around? Would love to know!

Vancouver BC restaurants for birthday celebration

I'm going to Vancouver for a quick overnight trip to celebrate my birthday with my family. We'll arrive before dinner, and leave sometime after lunch the next day (but possibly after another dinner). I and one son have no dietary restrictions, but my wife is currently on a restrictive diet -- no gluten, no dairy, no egg -- and my younger son is a super picky eater (no hot vegetables :-/). Can you help us find places where we can all eat celebratory food? We'll be in the West End.

Recently verified heated outdoor gathering spots in New York City

I'm seeking casual gathering places (pubs, cafés, etc.) that serve food and/or drink, and that have truly outdoor seating, and that are suitable for groups of 6-12, and that have some form of outdoor heating such as firepits or heat lamps. Please only recommend venues where you personally have empirically verified the existence of real outdoor seating, within the last month, with your own senses. A roof plus two walls is fine, three walls is possibly okay as long as there's a lot of airflow, four walls is not okay. [more inside]

Should I tip at all USA restaurants?

I certainly think one ought to tip, 20 percent when you can, at all restaurants when the food is brought to your table. But at sandwich shops and fast food places — where the waitstaff just gives you the food at the counter — does the duty to tip have the same moral weight? I’m sure seeing a lot of suggestions to that effect when I use my credit card to pay at such joints.

Where should I go for dim sum in NYC on Christmas day?

Myself and two friends want to get dim sum on Christmas Day, but the place I always used to go to (Hop Shing) has shut down. Where can we go that will be very good and also open on Christmas? Ideally they would either take reservations (this seems silly to ask for, since the place I used to go to would never in a million years take a reservation), or not have a crazy wait at around 11am.

SF restaurants with real outdoor patios

I often have to visit San Francisco for errands. After completing the errand I used to enjoy having a nice meal, but because of reasons I can only do that at places that have actual-dactual patios, not the "tables on the sidewalk" setup, preferably with heaters. Upscale vegetarian friendly restaurant in San Francisco?

SF Me-fites - send me your recommendations for an upscale vegetarian friendly restaurant in San Francisco. We have a client dinner arranged for tomorrow night, and just found out that one of the client attendees is vegetarian. We of course want to make sure that we provide them a great experience! Original options were for Waterbar, Boulevard or Harborview. Our office is in the financial district, so we would like to stay close, but are happy to go a 10 to 15 minute Lyft ride if there is a great option in a nearby neighborhood. Thanks!

I’m looking for a nice place in or near Aptos (Capitola or Santa Cruz work) to have dinner for my wedding anniversary. We’ll have our 7 year old with us, so while I’d like something good and very pleasant and I don’t necessarily need a kids menu, I’m not after super high concept. No food restrictions and would be nice if there are cocktails, though that’s not a requirement.
