Mariner Minors
Game Recaps (8/17-18/06)
Tucson 3 (ARI + 28), Tacoma 1 (fourteen innings) (Thurs)Ugh… yeah, might as well get this one over with. RHP Clint Nageotte (5.44) pitched five innings and gave up a run on five hits (HR), a wild pitch, and five walks with only one K. After that, RHP Scott Atchison (2.50) and RHP Jon Huber (1.88) both pitched three innings. Atch gave up two hits and punched out one, while Huber gave up a hit, hit a batter, threw a wild pitch, walked one, and struck out four. RHP Emiliano Fruto (3.15, L) took the loss after two unearned runs scored on two walks and five Ks in two and a third innings, and RHP Aaron Looper (6.29) gave up a hit in two-thirds of an inning to score both.
C Jeff Clement (.247) had three hits and a walk, 3B Hunter Brown (2B ,R, .271) and CF T.J. Bohn (2B, .272) both had two, and SS Oswadlo Navarro (.256) and DH Jose Morban (.271) both walked twice.
Tucson 3 (ARI + 27), Tacoma 4 (Fri)Taking three of four from one of the top teams in the league is good enough for me. RHP Rich Dorman (4.42, W) pitched seven innings to help the bullpen out, giving up a run on four hits, a wild pitch, and two walks while he rung up five. RHP Sean Green (2.25, S), back in triple-A, gave up two runs on five hits with one strikeout in two innings.
3B Hunter Brown (2B, .274), LF Greg Dobbs (2B, .300), and 2B Ismael Castro (R, SB, .275) all had two hits, and DH Jeff Clement (2B, .247) and RF Jon Nelson (3B, 2 R, .291) both had extra-base hits.
San Antonio 4, Wichita 3 (KC + 10) (Thurs)At least they came out with one win. RHP Yorman Bazardo (3.08) let two runs score through six and a third innings after four hits, four walks, and five Ks. RHP Chad Fillinger (3.00, BS, W) let both score, along with one of his own, on a pair of hits, a wild pitch, and a pair of walks with one strikeout in two and a third innings, but he ended up getting the win after the Missions rallied and RHP Byron Embry (8.10, S) struck out the final batter of the game.
DH Scotty Baseball (2B, R, 2 RBI, .300) was the hero of this game, as he had three hits and singled in the deciding run in the top of the ninth. 2B Yung-chi Chen (RBI, .293) had a couple of hits batting after him.
San Antonio 4, Tulsa 10 (COL – 1) (Fri)LHP Travis Blackley (4.06, L) took the loss as he gave up five runs on six hits (3HR!), a wild pitch, a hit batter, and three walks with five Ks. I’ve enjoyed his comeback season as much as anyone, but August has been pretty bad for him, as he’s walking too many batters and getting hit too hard. RHP Nate Mateo (5.77) let two more cross in two and two-thirds innings on three hits, two walks, and a strikeout. RHP Stephen Kahn (6.68) also got tagged, letting three runs score on two hits and two walks in the ninth.
CF Wladimir Balentien (HR, .243) hit his twentieth home run and walked twice. Of course, there were other significant contributors, as DH Scotty Baseball (2B, RBI, .312) and SS Erick Monzon (2B, 2 RBI, .256) both had two hits, 1B Marshall Hubbard (2B, .280) had a double, and LF Jason Bourgeois (R, 2 SB, .273), 2B Yung-chi Chen (R, .284) and RF Mike Wilson (R, A, .291) all had two walks. With the level of offense they had, they probably should’ve score a few more runs than they did.
Inland Empire 2, Lake Elsinore 1 (SD 0) (Thurs)RHP Jorge Campillo (4.00, W) pitched up a win this time around, letting one run cross on three hits (HR), a walk, and two Ks. RHP Mumba Rivera (4.33) walked one and struck out one in the next two, and then RHP Joe Woerman (2.74) had a hit, a walk, and a K to show for the two-thirds of an inning that followed. RHP Jose de la Cruz (2.79, S) struck out three of the last four batters he had to face to pick up the save.
2B Luis Valbuena (2B, 3B, R, RBI, .290) had a couple of extra-base hits and DH Jack Arroyo (2B, .293) doubled.
Inland Empire 1, Rancho Cucamonga 7 (ANA – 6) (Fri)RHP Aaron Jensen (6.84, L) kept going with his August trend, giving up six runs (five earned) on six hits (HR), four walks, and two Ks in four and a third innings. RHP Jon Lockwood (3.87) let one of those score, and an unearned of his own, after a hit, a wild pitch, a walk, and three Ks in two and a third innings. RHP Justin Jordan (5.17) walked one and struck out one in the eighth.
Aside form two hits by 3B Ron Prettyman (R, .288), who was recently moved back to California from Peoria, there wasn’t much offense to speak of.
Peoria 7 (CHC – 2), Wisconsin 2 (Thurs)RHP Marwin Vega (6.23, L) couldn’t hold the early one-run lead and ended up letting seven runs score on six hits (HR), a wild pitch, a hit batter, four walks, and two Ks in four+ innings. RHP Roman Martinez (3.09) let one of those cross the plate after a hit and four strikeouts over the span of three innings. RHP Cory Koliscak (7.11) struck out two in the eighth, and RHP Austin Bibens-Dirkx (2.16) gave up a hit and struck out one in the eighth.
2B Ron Garth (2B, HR, SB, .280) had three hits, including the home run to give the T-Rats the brief lead way back in the first. 1B Gerardo Avila (2B, .194) doubled after having his bat go quiet for a few games.
Wisconsin 7, Dayton 5 (CIN – 2) (fourteen innings) (Fri)LHP David Asher (4.46, PO) gave up four runs on six hits (HR), a hit batter, and four strikeouts in six and two-thirds of an inning, and RHP Edgar Guaramato (5.88) finished up the seventh with a couple of Ks. Beyond that, RHP Ruben Flores (5.35), who’s recently become a strikeout machine, gave up a hit and punched out five in two innings, RHP Brian Kappel (1.93) walked two in a two-inning sting, RHP Austin Bibens-Dirkx (2.42, BS) let a run score in the twelfth on three hits and a walk, and RHP Juan Colon (7.50, W) gave up a hit and a walk over the final two.
C Adam Moore (2B, HR, 2 RBI, .303) is taking home the gameball for going 5-for-7 in this one, though CF Eddy Hernandez (2B, HR, 3 RBI, .244) also put forth a strong effort with his three hits. 3B Jeff Flaig (2B, 2 R, RBI, E, .217), 2B Ron Garth (RBI, .281), and RF Stan Posluszny (3B, 2 R, .333) each had two hits. I kind of figured Poz would be promoted sooner or later, but in this case, he’s filling the spot for Michael Saunders, who’s playing for Canada in the Olympic Qualifiers right now.
Yakima 5 (ARI - 21), Everett 8 (Thurs)The Bears are a terrible offensive team this season, but I don’t particularly mind, because RHP Chris Tillman (5.19, W) shredded them through six innings to the tune of one hit, a hit batter, and three walks allowed as he struck out ten, a new club high for the season. Oddly enough, the Everett Herald says that he wasn’t really using his curve and only threw about ten breaking pitches all night. RHP Joe Kantakevich (3.12) would let all of the Bears runs score on four hits (3 HR!), walk, and a K in an inning and two-thirds, though only one of them was earned. LHP Jose Suriel (3.00) struck out the final batter of that inning, and then RHP Doug Fister (0.83, S) got a perfect ninth in.
1B Manelik Pimentel (2 HR, 5 RBI, .276) was the driving force behind the offense, with three hits including two home runs. He’s now tenth in the league in OPS, and right behind him is 1B Joe White (HR, .255), who homered as well. C Danny Santin (HR, 2 R, PB, .277) also had a home run and a walk, and 3B Marcos Villezcas (R, E, .244) had a single and a walk.
If anyone’s wondering, Mike Schilling twisted his ankle.
Yakima 8 (ARI – 20), Everett 2 (Fri)LHP Steve Uhlmansiek (3.63, L) only pitched two and two-thirds of an inning before reaching his pitch count, with two runs (one earned) scoring on three hits, a hit batter, three walks, and three strikeouts. RHP Justin Souza (6.85) gave up two runs on a hit, three walks, and two Ks in and inning and two-thirds after that, and then RHP Andre Fiorenza (4.24) allowed four runs (three earned) to score on six hits (HR), a hit batter, and a walk in the next two innings. RHP Ari Kafka (4.50) finished up the game, giving up two hits, plunking a pair of batters, and striking out five.
1B Manelik Pimentel (R, .281) and CF Bryan Sabatella (2B, RBI, .253) both had two hits and DH Joe White (.252) walked twice. Coming into the game, White had forty-six walks, eight ahead of the next guy for the league lead.
Mesa Cubs 2, Peoria Mariners 6 (Thurs)RHP Douglas Salinas (2.89, W) picked up another win, as he pitched five innings and gave up a couple of runs on four hits, a hit batter, and a walk against six Ks. There wasn’t really the expectation, at least on my part, that he would succeed right away, but statistically, he’s one of the top pitchers in the league. RHP Haley Winter (6.94) gave up a hit and struck out four over the next two frames, and LHP Will Brown (6.86) and RHP John Sullivan (1.29) both gave up one hit and struck out a batter in an inning’s worth of work, though Sullivan also walked one.
SS Deybis Benitez (3B, R, RBI, .278) had three hits in the game, CF Wellington Dotel (3B, 2 R, RBI, .256) had two, RF Alex Gary (.296) had a hit and two walks, and 3B Alex Liddi (2B, 2 RBI, .331) doubled.
Peoria Mariners 4, Surprise Royals 8 (+ 7)RHP Nathan Adcock (3.33, 2 E, L) gave up three runs (two earned) on six hits, two wild pitches, a walk, and four Ks in five innings, but the guys behind him pitched a bit worse. RHP Robert Harmon (9.00) let two plate on five walks and a wild pitch while striking out two in two-thirds of an inning, and RHP Will Fenton (7.36, E) let three score on four hits, a wild pitch, and two walks while pitching the rest of the game.
C Julian Henson (2 RBI, E, .193) and 2B Juan Guzman (2B, 3B, .250) both had a couple of hits and CF Wellington Dotel (HR, .256) and DH Jairo Hernandez (2B, R, .200) both flashed some power.

Game Recaps (8/16/06)
Tucson 2 (ARI + 27), Tacoma 4LHP Bobby Livingston (4.84, W) pitched six+ innings, letting two runs (one earned) score on five hits (HR), a walk, and a couple of Ks. RHP Emiliano Fruto (3.35, S) gave up a hit and a walk in the seventh.
LF Jose Morban (2B, 3B, R, .264) had three hits, coming up a homer shy of the cycle. SS Oswaldo Navarro (R, RBI, E, .265) and RF Jon Nelson (HR, .304) both had two hits, and 3B Hunter Brown (RBI, CS, .272) and 2B Ismael Castro (R, CS, .266) both had a hit and a walk.
Tucson 6 (ARI + 28), Tacoma 3RHP Jeff Harris (3.71, L) got the loss for giving up the first run on six hits, a hit batter, a walk, and a strikeout in three innings, but much of the damage was done to RHP Justin Huisman (8.02), who gave up five runs on four hits, a wild pitch, and three walks against a K in two and a two-thirds innings. RHP Mike Flannery (5.71) let two of those score in the one-third+ inning that he pitched, walking three and striking out one.
CF T.J. Bohn (R, RBI, .270) and LF-3B Jose Morban (HR, 2 RBI, .291) both had a couple of hits, SS Oswaldo Navarro (2B, R, .264) had a double, and 1B Roberto Petagine (.167) had a hit and a walk. Yes, he is still around. More interesting is that, looking at the box, it seems like this was one of those weird games where the DH has to play the field and they lose that option, because it looks like Looper pinch-hit for Flannery.
San Antonio 10, Wichita 11 (KC + 11)Unfortunately, the Missions hitters never quite tipped the scales, just nudged them in the opposite direction from time to time. Thus, LHP Robert Rohrbaugh (4.39) took the loss after he gave up seven runs on ten hits and a walk while punching out one in two and two-thirds innings. LHP Ryan Rowland-Smith (3.90) gave up two more runs (one earned) after five hits, a wild pitch, a hit batter, and four strikeouts in the next three and a third. For the final two innings, the Missions ran out RHP Craig James (2.83) and RHP Byron Embry (9.00). James let two runs score on two hits and a walk against a K, and has been scuffling in August. Embry, on the other hand, struck out two.
DH Jason Bourgeois (2B, HR, 4 R, .276), 1B Marshall Hubbard (R, 2 RBI, .289), and 3B Matt Tuiasosopo (RBI, .201) each had three hits. SS Scotty Baseball (HR, 2 R, .273) and RF-CF Wladimir Balentien (HR, 3 RBI, .244) had two each, including home runs, while LF-RF Mike Wilson (HR, 2 RBI, .301) and 2B Jesus Guzman (2B, R, E, .251) both added extra-base hits.
Inland Empire 3, Lake Elsinore 5 (SD + 1)RHP Cibney Bello (4.21, L) pitched six innings, giving up five runs on eight hits (HR) and a walk while he struck out eight. It’s not good, and he still has home run issues, but in recent months, we’ve seen his walk rate drop lower than it’s ever been historically, his Ks climb a bit, and his extreme flyball tendencies to even out to where he’s inducing flyouts and groundouts about evenly, to which I can only respond with a confused “buh?” RHP Joe Woerman (2.82) struck out one in the seventh, and RHP Juan Done (7.89) rung up two in the eighth.
2B Luis Valbuena (R, CS, .281) and 1B Reed Eastley (R, RBI, E, .279) both had a couple of hits and LF-RF Casey Craig (2B, RBI, .320) and CF Brent Johnson (2B, .293) both doubled.
Peoria 9 (CHC – 3), Wisconsin 5LHP Paul Fagan (5.14) let four runs, two of ‘em earned, score on five hits, a wild pitch, and four walks against two Ks in five innings. RHP Juan Colon (8.44, E, BS, L) had the same amount of runs score, but managed to do his in an inning and two-thirds after a hit, two wild pitches, two walks, and a K. RHP Roman Martinez (3.32) had a hand in letting two of those score as he gave up a hit before recording the final out of the seventh. LHP Lance Beus (3.96) let a run score on a solo home run and struck out two in the eighth, and RHP Cory Koliscak (8.44) had an uneventful ninth.
CF Eddy Hernandez (HR, 2 RBI, PO, .242) had a couple of hits, including his fifth home run of the year, none of which he hit before July. His April and May were abysmal, but it seems like he’s finally caught up with the league and is getting back to the kind of player he was in the AZL last year. SS Chris Minaker (2B, .308), LF Jeff Flaig (2B, R, .214), and 2B Ron Garth (2B, R, RBI, .275) all had doubles batting in the one through three spots. Sadly, Minaker’s double came later in the game, so his streak of consecutive hits ended at ten.
Phoenix Athletics 1 (- 1), Peoria Mariners 8I like wins as much as anyone, particularly ones over a division rival’s farm team (insert pun here about the AZL M’s putting up a better fight), but when they’re mostly pitched by rehabbing pitchers who are too good for the level, it kind of dampens it a bit. The first six innings were split between RHP Ivan Blanco (0.00), RHP Anthony Varvaro (0.00), and RHP Jason Snyder (0.00, PO, W). Blanco gave up a hit and a walk, threw a wild pitch, balked, and struck out three, Varvaro walked one and punched out four, and Snyder let an unearned run score on three free passes while he struck out one. After that, RHP Rocky Collis (3.70) gave up a walk, hit two, and struck out three in the next couple of frames, and RHP Kyle Parker (4.05) walked one and struck out one in the ninth.
2B Juan Guzman (2 R, RBI, SB, .200) had a hit and two walks, CF Wellington Dotel (R, 2 RBI, .250) had two hits, and LF Marquise Liverpool (R, .257), SS Deybis Benitez (R, CS, E, .266), and RF Jose Graterol (R, RBI, CS, .200) each had a hit and a walk.

Game Recaps (8/15/06)
Tucson 2 (ARI + 28), Tacoma 3RHP Cha Seung Baek (3.00, W) allowed two runs to score on three hits and two walks against five Ks in seven innings of work. RHP Scott Atchison (2.70) and RHP Jon Huber (2.04, S) both gave up a hit and struck out two in an inning’s worth of work.
LF-RF Jon Nelson (2B, R, E, .298) had a couple of hits and C Jeff Clement (2B, R, RBI, .244) had a double and a walk. DH Ismael Castro (2 RBI, .262) also deserves a good chunk of credit for singling home two runs in the seventh.
San Antonio 2, Wichita 4 (KC + 10)RHP Travis Chick (2.23, E, L) let four runs (three earned) cross on seven hits, three walks, and one strikeout in seven innings. RHP Stephen Kahn (6.06) gave up a hit na walked one in the eighth.
1B Marshall Hubbard (.280) had four hits, RF Mike Wilson (2B, 2 R, .302), 3B Matt Tuiasosopo (.188), and C Luis Oliveros (.177) all had a hit and a walk, and CF Sebastien Boucher (SB, .249) walked twice.
Inland Empire 0, Lake Elsinore 1 (SD 0)LHP Shawn Nottingham (4.37, L) only gave up an unearned run on three hits, a hit batter, and a walk while punching out five in six innings, but that was all the offense the Storm needed tonight. RHP Aaron Trolia (5.48) gave up two hits and handed out a free pass in the final two innings.
LF Casey Craig (.321) had a couple of hits and 1B Andy Hargrove (2B, E, .190) had a double and a walk.
Peoria 2 (CHC – 4), Wisconsin 5RHP Nick Allen (3.84, W) gave up five hits, hit two batters, and walked one through five innings of work while he struck out four. RHP Edgar Guaramato (5.89) pitched an inning and two-thirds after that, giving up two runs on two hits, a walk, and three Ks. RHP Ruben Flores (5.51) let one of those score, walking two and striking out four in an inning and a third, and RHP Brian Kappel (2.16, S) gave up a hit and struck out two in the ninth.
SS Chris Minaker (2B, .314) had four hits for the second consecutive day, and that’s insane. 3B-LF Jeff Flaig (2 2B, R, RBI, .213) added a couple of doubles, C Adam Moore (HR, .284) had a home run and two walks, and DH Travis Scott (3B, R, RBI, .245) had a triple.
Everett 7, Boise 0 (CHC + 6)RHP Natividad Dilone (3.26, W) pitched six innings and gave up two hits and a walk while punching out two. I don’t get Dilone, because even in his “dominant” games like this, he still won’t strike out anyone. Groundballs and defense seem to get him by… RHP Ari Kafka (5.12) gave up three hits and walked a batter in the next inning and two-thirds, and LHP Rollie Gibson (3.47) struck out the final batter of the eighth. RHP Aaron Solomon (0.56) walked one in the ninth.
LF Kevin Reynolds (2B, R, 2 RBI, .278) had three hits in the game, DH Danny Santin (R, .273) and 1B Joe White (R, .255) had two hits apiece, and 3B Manelik Pimentel (2B, R, 2 RBI, .263), 2B Marcos Villezcas (HR, 3 RBI, .241), and C Jair Fernandez (2B, R, .212) each had an extra-base hit. Curiously, all the runs scored in the first, so take all of that into consideration.

Game Recaps (8/14/06)
Tacoma 3, Portland 8 (SD – 2)RHP Francisco Cruceta (4.37) gave up six runs on nine hits (3 HR), three walks, and five strikeouts in six and two-thirds innings. Home runs seem to have been a problem for him lately. RHP Renee Cortez (4.18) allowed one of those to cross the plate, along with two of his own, on four his, a walk, and a K in the next inning, and RHP Aaron Looper (6.49) struck out one in the final two-thirds.
3B Hunter Brown (2B, RBI, .275), RF Chris Snelling (2B, R, .215), CF T.J. Bohn (.268), 1B Bryan Lahair (HR, .328), and 2B Ismael Castro (2B, R, .260) all had two hits.
If you haven’t check out Dave Cameron’s recent entry on Lahair at
USS Mariner, well, you ought to. Lahair’s been a popular topic lately, between this, his presence on the USA Olympic Qualifying Roster, and coming ninth on Baseball America’s Prospect Hot Sheet for this week.
There's also a Prospect Retro on Raul Ibanez at
Minor League Ball.
San Antonio 3, Wichita 11 (KC + 9)LHP Ryan Feierabend (4.30, E, L) let five runs score on twelve hits, three walks, and three strikeouts in five and a third innings. RHP Chad Fillinger (2.97) got through the next inning and two-thirds just fine, but then RHP Craig James (2.56) was bit by whatever got Feier, ‘cause he gave up six runs (three earned) on four hits and two walks in two-thirds of an inning, and LHP Jason Mackintosh (3.77) let two of those score before striking out the last batter.
CF Sebastien Boucher (3B, 2 R, .251) and RF Wladimir Balentein (2B, 2 RBI, E, .242) had extra-base hits, 1B Marshall Hubbard (.263) had a hit and two walks, and 2B Yung-chi Chen (R, RBI, .309) had a couple of hits.
Inland Empire 5, Lancaster 3 (ARI + 1)LHP Justin Thomas (4.70, W) pitched seven innings, giving up all three runs on four hits (HR), three wild pitches, and five walks against seven Ks. RHP Joe Woerman (2.95) gave up a hit, plunked a batter, and rung up two in the eighth, and RHP Jose de la Cruz (2.86) got through the ninth without incident.
2B Luis Valbuena (R, .288), 3B Alex Meneses (CS, .328), and LF Casey Craig (3B, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, .317) all had two hits, C Omar Falcon (.236) had a pair of walks, and 1B Reed Eastley (2B, 2 R, RBI, .275) had a double and a walk.
Peoria 5 (CHC – 3), Wisconsin 6 LHP Jose Escalona (4.07) gave up four runs through five innings on seven hits (HR), two wild pitches, and two walks with three punchouts. RHP Cory Koliscak (10.38, W) gave up one run in the next inning and a third after three hits, and RHP Austin Bibens-Dirkx (2.25) got through an inning and two-thirds without letting anyone reach while he struck out one. RHP Brian Kappel (2.30, S) walked one and struck out one in the ninth.
SS Chris Minaker (HR, 3 RBI, .284) had four hits out of the leadoff spot, including his third home run. 2B Robby Hudson (2B, R, .284), 3B Jeff Flaig (2B, 2 R, .208), and RF Eddy Hernandez (R, RBI, .239) had two hits each batting seventh through ninth, and DH Curtis Ledbetter (R, .237) had a hit and a walk.
Everett 6, Boise 7 (CHC + 7)LHP Tony Butler (2.91, POly pitched four innings this time around, giving up five runs (two earned) on four hits, four walks, and a K. The Hawks are the best hitting team in the league, so it’s nothing to be ashamed about, better luck next time (that goes for you too, Tillman). RHP Stephen Richard (3.79, L) let two more runs cross on three hits, a walk, and three Ks in the next three innings. RHP Andrew Fiorenza (3.38) gave up a hit and rung up one in the eighth.
DH Danny Santin (2B, R, RBI, .256) and RF Carlos Peguero (RBI, .296) both had three hits, and CF Kevin Reynolds (2B, R, RBI, .259), LF Gavin Dickey (2B, HR, 3 R, E, ), and SS Ogui Diaz (2B, R, .241) had two each.
Peoria Mariners 3, Peoria Padres 7 (+ 4)RHP Carlos Javier (6.91, E, L) let three runs score on three hits, a walk, and a K in one inning of work. It’s safe to say this season’s been a bit of a disappointment for him. RHP Leonardo Torres (5.79) pitched the next three and two-thirds innings and let two runs score on three hits, two wild pitches, and three walks against five Ks, and RHP Will Fenton (0.00) let one of those score and an unearned of his own on three hits in the inning and a third that he pitched. RHP Marquis Pettis (3.63) gave up a run on a hit and a walk in the seventh, and RHP John Sullivan (1.50) gave up a hit in the eighth.
SS Deybis Benitez (CS, E, .265) and 3B Ron Prettyman (CS, .333) both had three hits, LF Stan Posluszny (2B, R, .308) had two, and 1B Alex Liddi (.333) had a hit and a walk.

Game Recaps (8/13/06)
Tacoma 9, Portland 3 (SD – 3)RHP Rich Dorman (4.66) pitched a solid game, giving up three runs on three hits (HR) and two walks against seven strikeouts in seven innings. RHP Jeff Harris (3.86) had a hit and a K to show for the next inning, and RHP Emiliano Fruto (3.44) had an uneventful ninth.
For offense, I have to go with 1B Bryan Lahair (2 HR, 3 R, 3 RBI, .325) for hitting two home runs off a left-handed pitcher, the first extra-base hits he’s had against any lefty since being promoted. 3B Mike Morse (.251), LF Jon Nelson (2B, HR, 2 RBI, .297), C Rob Johnson (2B, R, .234), and 2B Ismael Castro (2B, HR, 2 R, .250) all had two hits apiece as well, and RF Chris Snelling (HR, 2 RBI, .210) had a home run and a walk.
Tulsa 7 (COL 0), San Antonio 2LHP Travis Blackley (3.87, PO, L) let five runs (two earned) score in six innings after six hits, four walks, and three strikeouts. RHP Nate Mateo (5.72) gave up a run on a hit, a walk, and a K in the next two innings, and RHP Byron Embry (13.50) let one last run score on a hit and a walk in the ninth.
Not much in the way of offense, save for a LF Mike Wilson (HR, .303) home run. C Brian Schweiger (.173) had a hit and a walk.
Inland Empire 7, Lancaster 10 (ARI + 2)RHP Aaron Jensen (6.63, L) took the loss as he allowed nine runs (eight earned) to score on eleven hits (3 HR), a wild pitch, a hit batter, and two walks with just one K. LHP Saydel Beltran (14.2) let an unearned run score on four hits, a hit batter, and one strikeout in the final three and two-thirds.
3B Brent Johnson (2B, R, 2 RBI, .292) and C J.B. Tucker (R, RBI, PB, .215) both had three hits, LF Josh Womack (2B, R, RBI, .299) collected two, and 2B Luis Valbuena (HR, .280) hit a home run batting leadoff. SS Jeff Dominguez (R, E, .303) walked twice while batting ninth.
Wisconsin 3, Cedar Rapids 4 (ANA – 3) LHP David Asher (4.33, PO, L) pitched five innings and let all four runs score on nine hits (HR), two wild pitches, a hit batter, and two walks against three strikeouts. RHP Edgar Guaramato (5.74) gave up one hit and rung up three in the next two innings. Halfway through August, he has a eleven strikeouts to two walks for the month, albeit in six innings, but progress is progress. RHP Roman Martinez (3.35) gave up a hit in the eighth.
DH Chris Minaker (R, CS, .255) had three hits, and the group of CF Michael Saunders (CS, E, .240), 3B Jeff Flaig (.204), C Travis Scott (2B, R, RBI, .245), and SS Robby Hudson (2B, RBI, .281) had two each.
Everett 6, Boise 4 (CHC + 6)RHP Ricky Orta (5.79, PO, W) gave up two runs after seven hits (HR) and a strikeout through six innings of work. RHP Kameron Mickolio (3.75, E) let two runs score, one of them earned, on a couple of hits in the next two frames and RHP Doug Fister (0.85, S) gave up a hit in the ninth.
RF Carlos Peguero (HR, 2 R, .200) busted out three hits and didn’t strike out once. 3B Marcos Villezcas (3B, 2 RBI, .240) and DH Danny Santin (2 R, .204) each had two hits, 2B Dean Zorn (3B, R, RBI, .243) tripled, and C Jair Fernandez (RBI, PB, .210) had a hit and a walk.
Scottsdale Rangers 9 (- 6), Peoria Mariners 6RHP Nathan Adcock (3.27) gave up three runs on four hits and a walk while punching out three in five innings. RHP Jared Eichelberger (4.87) let a run score on two hits, a wild pitch, a walk, and four Ks in the next two innings, but RHP Robert Harmon (8.41, L) gave up the lead after five runs (four earned) scored on two hits, a wild pitch, a hit batter, three walks, and three Ks in the inning and two-thirds that followed. RPH Marquis Pettis (3.38) gave up one hit before recording the final out, but that one hit scored three runs, so the blame falls on him as well.
1B Alex Liddi (HR, 2 RBI, .333) had a couple of hits and a walk, and I think he’s knocked his OPS over the .900 mark again. CF Wellington Dotel (2B, R, .248) and 2B Juan Guzman (3B, RBI, .174) both had extra-base hits, and SS Deybis Benitez (2 R, .253) and 3B Ron Prettyman (R, E, .125) both had a hit and a walk.

Harold Williams Gone
If you hadn't noticed from his lack of appearances lately, Harold Williams isn't with the T-Rats anymore. Nor is he on the DL, or with any other team in the system. He hasn't been released either. Instead, he's been placed on the temporarily inactive list, and there's no clear timetable of when he might be back.
The Appleton Post-Crescent
has the story, but the basics are that Harold's father passed away four years ago and his mother has no means of easily supporting herself, so he's been sending back money to cover expenses for his mother and two younger brothers. Minor league baseball wasn't cutting it anymore as far as income went, so he left to find another, better paying job closer to home.
This story has come up once before that I can remember, earlier when he could still manage to cover expenses, but it seems inevitable that this would come up again at some point. There's not much I can say about this. On one hand, you could be disappointed that he didn't get much of a chance to "live the dream" or that the organization is losing a left-hander who could strike out well over a batter per inning (even if he walked roughly the same amount), but this is one of the strange ways reality plays out at times, and if it comes down to playing baseball or supporting his family for however long, there's no real question as to which decision was the right one to make.
I hope to see him back at some point, but even if we don't I wish him well.

Game Recaps (8/12/06)
Tacoma 2, Portland 6 (SD – 2)RHP Clint Nageotte (5.67) got through three+ innings, giving up six runs (four earned) on six hits, a hit batter, and five walks with only one strikeout. It isn’t looking good for him…. RHP Scott Atchison (2.78) let one of those score after two hits, a wild pitch, a walk, and two Ks in an inning and a third and LHP Eric O’Flaherty (0.00) came in for an inning and two-thirds after that, giving up a couple of hits and ringing up three. RHP Renee Cortez (3.91) gave up a hit and struck out one in the seventh, and RHP Jon Huber (2.10) punched out one in the eighth.
What offense the Rainiers could get was bolstered a bit by some walks here and there, six total given up by Beavers pitchers. 2B Hunter Brown (R, CS, .273) had a hit and two walks, 1B Bryan Lahair (.321) just had the two walks, 3B Mike Morse (2B, R, .246) had two hits and a walk, and C Jeff Clement (2 RBI, CS, .247) had a walk in addition to singling in two runs.
Tulsa 5 (COL – 1), San Antonio 3RHP Yorman Bazardo (3.10) pitched five and two-thirds innings, giving up three hits and four walks against three punchouts. The ERA seems a bit deceptive in this case because his WHIP, while decent, is nothing to get excited about, and he’s struck out just over a batter every other inning. RHP Stephen Kahn (6.25) let two runs score on two hits and three walks in the next inning and two-thirds, but RHP Byron Embry (18.00) forced one of those in and walked two without recording an out. LHP Ryan Rowland-Smith (4.05) would let the remaining Kahn run and both of Embry’s runs score, along with one of hots own, on two hits (HR) and two walks against a K in two-thirds of an inning. LHP Jason Mackintosh (3.78) got through the eighth without incident.
CF Sebastien Boucher (SB, .253), SS Scotty Baseball (2B, E, .279), 2B Jason Bourgeois (R, .281), and 1B Marshall Hubbard (2B, RBI, .265) each had a couple of hits, and LF Mike Wilson (2B, .304) doubled.
Inland Empire 3, Lancaster 11 (ARI + 1)RHP Jorge Campillo (6.75, L) got through four innings, giving up three runs on five hits (HR), a walk, and four Ks. RHP Justin Jordan (5.25) pitched the next two innings and let four runs (three earned) plate after five hits and a walk. RHP Mumba Rivera (4.46) let four more runs score on five hits (HR), two walks, and four Ks in the final two innings.
3B Luis Valbuena (2B, .286) had a couple of hits and a walk, and RF Casey Craig (.316) had a single and a walk.
Wisconsin 1, Cedar Rapids 4 (ANA – 4) So much for that experiment… or rather, I should say that the early returns are not impressive. LHP Lance Beus (3.82) gave up seven runs on seven hits (2 HR), a wild pitch, a walk, and two Ks in an inning and a third. RHP Roman Martinez (3.43) let two of those score on a hit and a K in an inning and two-thirds. Bullpen day continued as RHP Nick Allen (4.05), RHP Ruben Flores (5.62), RHP Juan Colon (8.16), RHP Cory Koliscak (12.00), and RHP Brian Kappel (2.45) each pitched one inning in relief. Allen struck out two, Flores did the same while adding a walk, Colon walked one, Koliscak let two runs score on two hits, a walk, and a K, and Kappel gave up one hit.
RF Johan Limonta (HR, .244) had three hits and a walk, C Adam Moore (R, .291) had two, and 2B Ron Garth (HR, .278) added a home run.
Everett 2, Boise 4 (CHC + 7)LHP Steve Uhlmansiek (3.65, L) lasted four and a third innings, giving up four runs on seven hits (HR), a walk, and four Ks. RHP Justin Souza (6.53) gave up a couple of hits and a walk while punching out three in the next two and two-thirds, and LHP Jose Suriel (3.04) walked two, one of them intentionally, in the eighth.
RF Carlos Peguero (2B, .067) finally got his first hit, and wouldn’t you know it, it went for extra-bases. LF Bryan Sabatella (2 R, SB, .250) had a hit and two walks, and DH Chao Kuan Wu (RBI, .230) had a hit and a walk.
Peoria Mariners 4, Scottsdale Giants 3I’ll take some solace knowing that the one win the system got came against the league’s top team, though in the AZL, that may not count for much. RHP Ivan Blanco (0.00) walked one and struck out two in two innings, and then RHP Anthony Varvaro (0.00) showed up for an inning, giving up a hit and striking out one. RHP Haley Winter (7.59, E, W) gave up a hit, walked one, and struck out three in the next two innings, and LHP Will Brown (7.23) let a run score on three hits and two walks against three Ks in two frames after that. RHP Rocky Collis (4.03, S) almost gave it up, letting two runs cross on two hits and two walks against a strikeout in the final two innings, but ended up with the save instead.
LF Marquise Liverpool (R, RBI, .267) and CF Wellington Dotel (2B, HR, 3 RBI, .247) both had two hits, and RF Alex Gary (R, .286) drew three walks.
