Abstract

1,149,205. Spray carburetters. J.D. FARLEY. March 18, 1968 [Dec. 16, 1966], No.54202/66. Heading F1B. In a carburetter with an adjustable choke piston G, the chamber L above the piston or diaphragm M is subjected through passage X to the suction at the choke whilst the chamber below the piston M is subjected through passage 24 to the suction downstream of the throttle valve N and the fuel from the nozzle Q is atomized by air fed to chamber 4 from an atmospheric inlet 10. The air flow to chamber 4 is controlled by a suction actuated valve 51 with an adjustable spring abutment 42 which is moved to the right by rotation of an eccentric 44 to reduce the air-flow and enrich the mixture at cold starting. The eccentric 44 may be controlled by a thermostat or by a pressure responsive device to provide connection for varying ambient pressure; it may also be linked with the throttle valve. A diaphragm 60 provides controlled leakage into the space below piston M, a guide pin 72 the piston co-operating with an orifice 68 to vary the leakage with the piston position. In a modification Fig.2 (not shown) the throttle valve N is upstream of the piston G end passage 24 is replaced by a passage (70) opening between the valve N and piston G.
