Abstract

1290947 Spray carburetters SOC INDUSTRIELLE DE BREVETS ET D'ETUDES 26 Feb 1970 [3 March 1969 30 Sept 1969] 9411/70 Heading F1B In a carburetter having main and idling systems opening to the induction passage 1, the passage 12 supplying the idling orifice 4 is fed with fuel and air through respective calibrated orifices 7 and 9 and the flow through the passage to the orifice 4 is adjustable by a throttle needle 17. The flow of mixture from the passage 12 to an orifice 22, through a passage 19 by-passing the throttled idling orifice 4, is controlled by a valve 23 operated by a diaphragm 21 which may be subjected to the vacuum downstream of the throttle valve 3 through passages 25 and 26 under the control of a valve 28. When the valve 28 is closed the disphram 21 is subjected to the pressure at orifice 29 which, when the throttle valve 3 is in its idling position, is substantially atmospheric. The valve 28 is operated by a diaphragm 31, or capsule (39), Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown), subjected to the vacuum in the chamber 30 connected to the passage 26. The opening point of the passage 26 into the induction passage 1 is downstream of the throttle valve 3 when the valve is in its minimum open idling position and is upstream of the valve when the valve is opened slightly and therefore provides for opening of the valve 28 only during deceleration with minimum throttle opening. The diaphragm 31 is subjected to atmospheric pressure on the side opposite the chamber 30 through a port 38. To reduce the effect of atmospheric pressure changes on the operation of valve 28, the valve is operated by an evacuated capsule (39) Fig. 2 (not shown), containing a spring, and located in the chamber 30 for axial manual adjustment by a screw (35a). To eliminate the effect of atmospheric pressure changes, the capsule adjusting screw (35a), Fig. 3 (not shown), is adjustable in a member (40) supported from the capsule chamber wall by a metallic bellows (42) or a diaphragm which is subjected on one side to the capsule operating pressure and on the other side to atmospheric pressure. Progression orifices 5 and a further restricted orifice 14 are fed with fuel and air through respective calibrated orifices 8 and 10.
