Abstract
1287342 Spray carburetters FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 20 July 1970 [15 Aug 1969] 35043/70 Heading FIB The fuel and air mixing chamber 34 in the carburetter idling system is connected to the induction passage inlet portion 14 by a passage 24, 28 containing an orifice 26, to the fuel well 38 via a jet 40 and to the induction passage 12 downstream of the throttle valve 20 by a mixture passage 42 of substantially constant crosssectional area. The cross-sectional area of the passage 42 is substantially the same as or only slightly greater than the flow area of its inlet orifice 48, adjustable by a needle valve 46. A large increase in velocity occurs across the orifice 48 and the decrease in flow velocity through the passage 42 is minimized. An air passage 30 is connected at one end to the passage 24, 28 downstream of the orifice 26 and at the other end to the induction passage 12 through ports 32 and 33 or a slot which become downstream of the throttle valve 20 as the valve is opened. The flow area of the orifice 26 is substantially larger than the combined flow areas of the ports 32 and 33 and the orifice 48.
