Abstract

993,825. Spray carburetters. SOC. INDUSTRIELLE DE BREVETS ET D'ETUDES. Dec. 23, 1963 [Dec. 27, 1962], No. 50693/63. Heading F1B. In a carburetter with a main throttle 2, Fig. 1, an auxiliary throttle 3 actuated by air flow and controlling a fuel metering needle 18 feeding a fuel nozzle 20, the air space in the float chamber 11 is connected by a connection 40 to the air inlet and by a connection 38 to the space 10 between the throttles, the connection 48 being controlled by a valve 42 actuated in accordance with load or throttle valve position. In Fig. 1 at low load valve 42, which is controlled in accordance with load by the suction downstream of throttle valve 2 acting through pipe 46 on a diaphragm 43, is open so that the pressure in float chamber 11 is reduced by the suction at the point 48. At high load, valve 42 closes, whereby the pressure in float chamber 11 increases to enrich the mixture. The change in pressure in the float chamber may be made more gradual by situating the connection 48 so that it passes from the downstream side of valve 3 to its upstream side as the valve 3 opens. In Fig. 6 the feed nozzle 24 is fed by a pump 23 which draws the fuel from a space 22 connected to passage 10. For a two-cylinder engine the mixture is made leaner at high power by arranging the valve 42a to open at high power to decrease the pressure in the float chamber. In Fig. 7 the valve 42a controlling the suction connection to the float chamber is controlled by a lever 49 on the spindle 6 of throttle valve 2.
