Hungary, Slovakia demand from Ukraine to find gas transit solution — Orban

Not merely the Russian gas transit halt by Kiev but also the refusal to hold talks with Bratislava on resumption of fuel supplies are absolutely unacceptable, the Hungarian PM said

BUDAPEST, January 21. /TASS/. Hungary considers unacceptable the Ukraine’s decision to terminate Russian gas transit from January 1, supports Slovakia’s efforts to find the way out of the evolved situation and may take steps together with it against Kiev, Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban said at a joint press conference with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico after their meeting in Bratislava, streamed by M1 television.

Not merely the Russian gas transit halt by Kiev but also the refusal to hold talks with Bratislava on resumption of fuel supplies are absolutely unacceptable, Orban said. If Ukraine persists, then "Slovakia will make the decision on this issue," he noted. "And Hungary will also make the decision," Orban added. Then Ukraine "will take a big hit itself," he cautioned.

"Therefore, I will continue supporting efforts of Prime Minister Robert Fico on searching for a negotiated solution of the gas transit problem, which is extremely complex," Orban added.
