WASHINGTON, January 21. /TASS/. The administration of US President-elect Donald Trump aims to resolve the crisis in Ukraine and deter Russia in the long-term perspective, Trump's ambassador to the UN pick Elise Stefanik said.
"My effort will be supporting President Trump's mission to bring that to a resolution and to deter Russia in the long term," she said during confirmation hearings in the US Senate. "I believe peace through strength is our strongest deterrence."
"Certainly it's going to be important to support President Trump's approach with his special envoy to address and bring that to a resolution, and I will work with the National Security Council and my colleagues in the Cabinet who sit in the national security spaces to use this position at the United Nations to support his strategy and give him maximum flexibility to bring this to a resolution," she added.
Trump, who was sworn in as the US president on January 20, did not mention Russia or Ukraine during his inaugural speech. He did, however, declare that the power of the United States would allow it to end all wars and ensure unity in the world.
As Russian President Vladimir Putin noted earlier, Moscow is open to dialogue with the new US administration on the Ukrainian conflict. He confirmed that Russia takes into account the statements of Trump and his team about the desire to restore contacts, as well as the need to do everything to prevent a new world war.
