I found Lauren after a visit to the Fremont Sunday Market last week. She is opening a new boutique for men and women tomorrow called Him and Her Lane. It will be right in the same area as sister stores Bliss and Dream. Stop by tomorrow from 10am-9pm for clothes, cookies and drinks at the launch of the shop.

Jessie Ballou | Seattle Art Museum
Remember Jessie? I took her photo last year on Capitol Hill in that amazing flour sack dress and I posted a photo I took of her on this same day with her mom Robin. Jessie graduated from Cornish last year where she studied fashion illustration. Her senior project sounds like it was incredible. She did pen and ink illustrations of historic ethnic bridal gowns from around the world focusing on local customs, indigenous materials and craftsmanship from various cultures. Needless to say, this girl has a deep interest in style and the way that people dress. In the two times we have run into each other I have been completely blown away at how unique her own style is. She comes across as effortless rather than forced despite the incorporation of difficult to pull off vintage pieces.
Jessie is interested in both fashion illustration and styling. Whatever she ends up falling into I can't wait to see it. I told her to be sure to get in touch if she gets a website going so that I can share it with you guys.

It's My Darlin' in Germany's Blonde Magazine
I was recently contacted by German fashion magazine Blonde to help with a piece they were doing about traveling to Seattle on a budget. I contributed a few photos (some of your lovely faces and oufits can be found in the photo slideshow) as well as suggestions on where to get the most for your money while traveling here when it comes to food and shopping. I sent them a list of a lot of places... it was so hard to narrow it down! They ended up including quite a few including my beloved Indian Summer, the ladies over at Kaleidoscope Vision, the good old Fremont Sunday flea market, Marination Station's mindblowing torta and my new favorite dessert spot: Hot Cakes in Ballard.
You can find the article here. I put it in Google translate and while you can get the general idea of what is being said there were a few things lost in translation.
Thanks for showing Seattle some love Blonde Magazine!

The Bees Knees
A bees knees has become my recent favorite cocktail to work off of at home. It is so easy to make and there are so many things you can add to it. Yesterday I ended up with what I think is my favorite variation of the drink yet. A traditional Bees Knees contains 2 oz Gin, 3/4 oz fresh lemon juice, 3/4 oz honey syrup (1:1 water and honey mixture) and a lemon twist for garnish. I've been playing around with adding in half lime juice, switching out the lemon for lime completely and adding in weird bitters to the mix. Here is what I ended up with yesterday... not really even a Bees Knees cocktail anymore but delicious nonetheless.
2 oz gin (lately I've been enjoying Seattle's own Counter Gin from Batch 206 Distillery)
1 oz lime juice
3/4 oz honey syrup (1:1 water and honey mixture)
2 dashes of dandelion & burdock bitters (you can switch this out for another bitter... lavender, aromatic, orange or no bitters at all)
add ingredients to a shaker and shake with ice until the shaker becomes frosty. Strain into a glass with ice then add the following:
a splash of citrus soda (I used Gazzosa soda which can be purchased at Sugar Pill on Capitol Hill)
a sprig of basil
Now, what in the world do I call this outlandish metamorphosis of a Bees Knees? Bees Ricky, Lime Basil Bee, Gin Fizzbee... Okay, so I'm good at making cocktails but not so good at naming them.
