本発明に係る防腐殺菌剤は、炭素数5〜10の1,2−アルカンジオールとテルピネン−4−オール及び/又はリナロールとを併用することにより、1,2−アルカンジオールが本来有する防腐殺菌活性を相乗的に増強することができるので、化粧品、医薬品又は食品などの防腐殺菌剤として有用である。
本発明に係る化粧品、医薬品又は食品は、防腐殺菌剤として、炭素数6〜10の1,2−アルカンジオールと、テルピネン−4−オール及び/又はリナロールとが含有されているので、従来の防腐殺菌剤の配合量を低配合量又は実質的に無配合量とすることができ、高い安全性を有する化粧品、医薬品又は食品として有用である。
