Definitions
- the present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for folding Sheets of material, in particular those made from at least one paper web Sheets of paper or signatures according to the preamble of claims 1 and 6.
- a sword folding device is known from US Pat. No. 5,458,557.
- a folding knife is on two opposite ends hung on two pivots, which are rotatable Connection arms are connected. So the knife moves up and down by one Slide signature between two cylinders and in this way a longitudinal fold form.
- This device is complicated and requires a complex gear.
- the US 5,030,193 shows a folder with a first folding device, the first Fold forms in a web of material along its path. This first fold is formed by pulling the web over a triangular, stationary former and between a pair of pinch rollers or press rollers is passed through. Then the Web cut from a knife cylinder into signatures, which are then from a Folding cylinders are guided to a flap cylinder. A folding knife of the folding cylinder pushes the signature into a flap of the flap cylinder to form a second fold, that runs across the first fold. Then the signatures become a third Folding device directed, which comprises a tape arrangement that grips the signatures and through the third folder. The belt arrangement maintains a straight direction within the third folder.
- Two stationary hoppers on the sides of the Tapes pick up the sides of the signature when the signature is in the third folder entry. These formers run at an angle to the belts, so that the outer edge portions of the signatures are moved up and so the fold of the third folding device is formed.
- the first folder of the above patent has the disadvantage that the Folding device cannot be used to create a stream of individual signatures Fold because a continuous web has to be moved over the stationary former.
- the second folding device has the disadvantage that many moving parts are required; the Device is complicated and does not have enough capacity for different types of Printing machines that work at maximum printing speed.
- the third The folding device has the disadvantage that its structure is complicated and a large number of belts of different lengths.
- DE 197 25 610 shows a pre-folding device in which a large number of Folding knife segments are arranged side by side on a belt.
- the belt falls downwards when the signature enters the pre-fold area.
- the knife segments fold the signature gradually due to the bevel, so that the signature of their Leading edge is gradually provided with a longitudinal fold up to its rear edge.
- This gradual folding can lead to a reduction in quality, e.g. Wrinkle the Signature while the fold is being formed.
- the invention is accordingly based on the object, a method and a Device for folding signatures at which the speed of the individual signatures to form a fold need not be significantly reduced, and where the quality of the fold is improved. It is also a task of Invention, a simplified method and a simplified device for folding To create signatures.
- Contact in this sense means contact bring and thus refers to the period in which the folding knife edge a Comes into contact with the material sheet. So it becomes the material sheet in the Essentially the same over the entire length of the material sheet Time touched or hit by the fold edge.
- the printer allows the printer to Folding material sheets at the same time with very high speed and accuracy, whereby only a few process steps are required to carry out the process.
- the material sheets can be folded at an undiminished speed be, so that the high speed of the upstream advantageously Facilities, e.g. Printing units or cooling rollers, also received for the folding process remains.
- the material sheets, which e.g. already a first longitudinal and a first Cross fold can be on a folding table by means of transport devices, e.g. Conveyor belts or blowing devices, are moved forward.
- Folding knife has a folding edge which is in line with the material sheet Transport direction is moved and oriented to it in such a way that when the Folded edge on the material sheet this essentially over the material sheet entire length of the material sheet contacted, i.e. especially at about the same time touches down over the entire length of the material sheet.
- the folding table can preferably have a flat surface, it is but it is also conceivable that the folding table essentially has a cross section V-shaped surface, the gap of the folding table at the deepest point of the V-shaped surface lies.
- the folding knife can have a folding edge with essentially the have the same length as the material sheets, but it is preferably also possible that the folding edge of the folding knife is longer than the material sheet, e.g. even bigger ones Being able to fold sheets of material for changing print jobs. It still is conceivable that the folding knife has a folding edge which is slightly shorter than that Material sheet is in the transport direction.
- segment the folding knife i.e. from individual Folding knife segments, which are arranged in succession in the transport direction, build up. Segmenting the folding knife is particularly advantageous when large Material sheets are to be folded, so that with unsegmented long folding knives Problems with guiding the folding knife on the essentially endless means of transport, in particular at the deflection points of the means of transport.
- the at least one folding knife can in the transport direction at an angle of preferably moved less than 30 degrees to the surface plane of the folding table become.
- the guide of the folding knife leads at an angle of preferably less than 30 degrees in an advantageous manner that the fold edge during the parallel movement to Material sheet approaches this slowly and contacts it precisely, so that high quality folds can be produced.
- the fold edge can be oriented that while the folder is moving in parallel with the sheet of material and when simultaneous movement of the folding knife towards the folding table, perpendicular to the Material sheet attaches.
- the folding knives can be arranged in groups, preferably in such a way that Process at least two groups of folding knives at the same time. This procedure can advantageously increase the folding speed can be achieved.
- the folding knives can be on a belt or a belt, preferably one Timing belt, be arranged at a speed similar to that Signature speed is moved over the folding table.
- the strap can also be in run at an angle A to the surface plane of the folding table. In this case it can be advantageous to move the belt at a speed approximately that Signature speed divided by the cosine of the angle A corresponds to, so the Velocity of the folding knife along the surface plane of the folding table parallel to the signatures is similar to that of the signatures.
- the device according to the invention for folding in a transport direction Sheets of material especially those made from at least one paper web Sheets of paper or signatures, which have a folding table with a gap, one in the Fundamentally endless, parallel to the direction of transport and at least one arranged on the conveying means and having a folded edge Folding knife, which is moved into the gap, is characterized by that the fold edge is oriented essentially parallel to the material sheet and the Material sheet contacted essentially over the entire length of the material sheet.
- the device according to the invention performs a longitudinal fold in one step, the Risk of creasing the material is advantageously reduced.
- the material sheets run at a transport speed which is in advantageously equal to that in upstream units, e.g. Printing units, prevailing transport speed of paper webs is in the device for Fold in, and can advantageously be done with essentially unchanged Speed the folding process, i.e. the device for folding, go through.
- upstream units e.g. Printing units
- Speed the folding process i.e. the device for folding, go through.
- Each folding knife may preferably be segmented, i.e. it can consist of individual Folding knife segments exist which e.g. on the funding successively are arranged so that the segments are aligned and aligned with a folding knife represent.
- Each segmented folding knife preferably comprises folding knife segments that have a blade portion and a base portion. Every knife can preferably start with a segment with a shorter blade section, where the next sections of the blade gradually become longer. This sloping arrangement ensures that the knives contact the signatures at an advantageous angle.
- the blade and / or the base sections of the Removable means of transport and attachable to the means of transport so that various folding knives arranged on the means of transport with little effort can be.
- the segmented folding blades are preferably spaced apart on the Straps arranged.
- the distance between the folding blades can be the distance between the signatures entering the device.
- the belt can be arranged above the folding table, so that the folding knife can be moved through a Gap can run into the folding table.
- a pair of folding rollers and Conveyor belts arranged on the other side opposite the folding table in order to To simplify or support folding.
- the folding table preferably comprises one Variety of powered belts for transporting the signature or book.
- the Folding table can also include blowing nozzles to support transport by blowing fragrance.
- the belt is preferably so long and shaped that at least two of the e.g. fit segmented folding knives on one side of the belt opposite the folding table can. This arrangement allows folding over a longer distance, which the Signature protects during the folding process, even if the device with maximum Speed works.
- the belt can preferably be a toothed belt and from are driven by a pair of gears. At least one of the gears can Drive belt and e.g. with a drive mechanism for the hinges of the folding table be connected.
- the belt is preferably at an angle, which is advantageous e.g. is less than 30 degrees to the surface plane of the folding table.
- the present method and apparatus enable the folding of individual signatures at high speed in an uncomplicated process.
- the force acting on the signature when folding is compared to a direct vertical folding mechanism significantly reduced, since the signatures for can be processed by the folding knife for a longer time than with a direct vertical Folding mechanism, e.g. with an up and down folding knife.
- the folder is at different signature lengths can be used, but a reduction in Speed between 3% and 18% may be required if the Section length varies.
- Another advantage is that the transport direction of the Product is not changed during folding.
- Fig. 1 shows a perspective view of a folding device 1 for folding the Signatures 2 and 3.
- the signatures 2 and 3 are driven along by driven belts 10 the surface of the folding table 12 moved in the transport direction 13. More top bands move the upper part of the signatures 2 and 3, but are not for the sake of clarity shown.
- the folding table 12 has a gap 14 which extends in the transport direction 13 extends.
- the folding device 1 comprises a plurality of segmented folding knives 20, which have individual folding blade segments 20a, 20b, 20c etc.
- the segments 20a, 20b, 20c etc. are on a belt 30 which has an internal toothing, so that it as Timing belt is used, attached.
- the belt 30 is owned by at least one of the two Gears 32 and 34 driven and is at an angle A to the surface of the folding table 12 arranged, i.e. the portion of the belt 30 between the gears 32, 34, the facing the folding table 12, runs in a plane which coincides with the plane of the Folding table 12 forms an angle A.
- Each segment 20a, 20b, 20c etc. of the folding knife 20 comprises a base section 40 which is preferably fastened to the belt 30 by means of fastening pins, so that the Base portion 40 can not slip on the belt 30.
- the base section 40 carries a folding blade segment 20.
- Two removable bolts or Screws can be used to hold the folder segment 20 in place that the folding blade segment 20 is easily replaceable should it have been damaged.
- the base section 40 and the folding blade segment 20 can be made from spring steel, however, these components can also be made from lightweight blended or plastic materials can be produced to reduce the weight of the individual folding knives.
- Fig. 2 shows a side view of the device of Fig. 1, the one shown in Fig. 1 Folding knife is moved by the belt 30. Since the folding knife 20 is segmented, the Folding knife segments 20a, 20b, 20c etc. are individually guided over the gear 32. Before the segmented folding knife 20 contacts the surface of the signature are the segments rearranged in a row and meet as a straight knife edge Surface of the signature. The surface of the signature thus forms a level, and that The knife edge runs in a plane parallel to this plane.
- the folding blade segments 20a, 20b, 20c etc. are preferably longer and longer have angled edges so that the knife edge runs at an angle.
- the angle between the belt 30 while it is running straight and the oblique one Knife edge preferably corresponds to the angle A between the belt 30 while it runs straight, and the surface level of the folding table 12.
- the Signature 4 contacted it is in position 4 ', as shown in Fig. 3.
- the Folding knife 20 presses signature 4 through an opening, e.g. a gap 14 in the Surface of the folding table 12 while the signature 4 continues to move forward (perpendicular to the plane of the drawing).
- the signature 4 is then from a gap 45 between two folding rollers 41 and 42 is formed, taken up by conveyor belts 43 and 44, which are guided around the folding rollers 41 and 42, transported on.
- the signature 4 of the Conveyor belts 43 and 44 continued and e.g. a slowdown device and / or a storage device.
- Belt 30 is preferably moved at a somewhat higher speed than the signatures when they reach the folding table. This increased speed is said to Compensate angle A so that the speed of the folding knife is parallel to that Product stream are moved, the speed of which is similar. Therefore, the strap preferably be moved at a speed approximately that
- Signature speed corresponds when divided on the folding table the cosine of A.
- Figure 4 shows the use of the present invention in a folder.
- Signatures which are to be folded can be attached to both sides by means of bands (not shown here) be held in order not to be influenced by gravity in an uncontrolled manner. While the signatures are being moved through the gap 14 in the folding table 12 they are gripped by the conveyor belts 43 and 44. These transport the signatures the decelerator 50 which brakes the folded signatures and to one Conveyor can forward.
- the present invention is shown here with segmented folding knives. However, it is the signatures are also possible using individual rotating folding knives with a continuous folding knife surface, which are attached to a belt to fold.
