Kim Gibson is a federal judge on senior status with the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. He joined the court in 2006 after being nominated by President George W. Bush.[1]
Early life and education
A native of Trenton, New Jersey, Gibson graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York, in 1970. He earned his J.D. from Dickinson School of Law in 1975.[1]
Military service
Gibson served on active duty in the U.S. Army until 1978 and in the Army Reserve until he retired as a colonel in 1996.[1]

Gibson was nominated to the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania by President George W. Bush on April 28, 2003, to a seat vacated by Judge Brooks Smith. The American Bar Association rated Unanimously Well Qualified for the nomination.[2] Hearings on Gibson's nomination were held before the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary on July 30, 2003, and his nomination was reported by U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) on September 4, 2003. Gibson was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on September 23, 2003, and he received his commission on September 24, 2003. He elected to take senior status beginning on June 3, 2016.[3][1]
