The city of Trenton utilizes a strong mayor and city council system. In this form of municipal government, the city council serves as the city's primary legislative body and the mayor serves as the city's chief executive.[1][2]
Mayor
The mayor serves as the city's chief executive and administrator. The mayor is responsible for signing legislation into law, supervising the deparments of city government, enforcing the city charter and ordinances, and overseeing the city's day-to-day operations.[1]
The current Mayor of Trenton is Reed Gusciora (nonpartisan). Gusciora assumed office in 2018.
City council
The Trenton City Council is the city's primary legislative body. It is responsible for adopting the city budget, levying taxes, and making or amending city laws, policies, and ordinances.[2]
Three members of the city council are elected at large, while four are elected by ward. Council members serve four-year terms.[2]

A runoff election for the North and South Ward seats on the council was held on December 13, 2022.[3] The filing deadline for this election was September 5, 2022.
