Arthur J. Schwab is a federal judge on senior status with the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. He joined the court in 2002 after being nominated by President George W. Bush. He elected to take senior status on January 1, 2018.
Early life and education
A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Schwab graduated from Grove City College with his bachelor's degree in 1968 and from the University of Virginia School of Law with his J.D. in 1972.[1]
Military service
Schwab served in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1968 to 1978.[1]

Schwab was nominated by President George W. Bush on January 23, 2002, to a seat vacated by Judge Maurice Cohill, Jr.. The American Bar Association rated Schwab Substantial Majority Qualified, Minority Well Qualified for the nomination. Hearings on Schwab's nomination were held before the Senate Judiciary Committee on June 27, 2002, and his nomination was reported by U.S. Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) on July 31, 2002. Schwab was confirmed on a recorded 92-0 vote of the U.S. Senate on September 13, 2002, and he received his commission on September 17, 2002.[1][2][3] He elected to assume senior status on January 1, 2018.
