PURPOSE:To manufacture cold rolled steel sheet having excellent drawability, by cooling rapidly a steel hoop, having been heated in a continuous annealing furnace, with metallic rotators having a specific relation between its shell thickness and its heat conductivity so as to reduce the time for the following overaging. CONSTITUTION:In order to quench a steel hoop, which has been heated so as to be soaked in a continuous annealing apparatus, at >=70 deg.C/sec cooling rate to the overaging temp., the shell thickness delta and the heat conductivity lambda mush satisfy the relation shown by formula I, where delta is in mm., lambda is in kcal/m.h. deg.C, DELTATm is thickness of the steel hoop in m, gamma is specific gravity of the steel hoop in kg/m<3>, Cp is specific heat of the steel hoop in kcal/kg. deg.C, 252 is a constant in deg.C to attain >= deg.C/sec cooling rate, v is flow velocity of cooling water in m/sec, (a) is the gap between the metallic rotator and the metallic hoop in m, 45 is heat conductivity of steel in kcal/m.h. deg.C, and 0.239 is heat conductivity between hoop surface and the metallic rotator in kcal/m.h. deg.C.
