Miscellaneous thoughts and observations..
Watched the first ten minutes of the Aaron Hernandez documentary on Netflix then I turned it off because why should I waste my time on that piece of shit. Especially as it seemed that the documentary was somehow going to make excuses for Hernandez's behavior... "Page 3 of 2" would be a good name for a blog... "What's true isn't new and what's new isn't true" a phrase from a recent Eric Weinstein Portal podcast that really made me think... Maybe the best synopsis of the McGregor / Cerrone fight last night... What are the odds that the Astros Jose Altuve leads MLB in getting hit by a pitch next season. I'd like to bet on that... Tobacco Cologne would be a good name for a band or an actual joke product you could give to the smoker in your life... What ever happened to the Dreamers? Have the Democrats completely abandoned the Dream Act as an issue? Wasn't it an upmost priority just a little while ago?... "It is capitalism that pulled billions out of poverty. Not vapid virtue signaling." - Nassim Nicholas Taleb...

- If the Blue Jackets don't give this guy a pair of tickets for all home playoff games they are missing a great good will gesture.
- Fantastic!
- She should have won a Nobel Prize!
- All fathers of daughters take note (literally)
- Cool - a Godfather scene-to-script comparison
- 4 tips for never going broke in poker

- 27 of the most amazing science photos from 2016
- Another Christmas gone by without getting something I really wanted
- This is awesome! "Give me yer belt Joe Rogan!"
- I agree - for those who know recent Irish history this might be Tweet of the year!
- 45 podcasts from TedTalks. Has to be a couple there I'd enjoy.

Conor McGregor
So Conor McGregor "announced" his "retirement" on Twitter yesterday. It was an immediate "Wait - what?" moment.
Then Dana White announced that McGregor is indeed out of the July 9th UFC 200 in Las Vegas. This changed UFC 200 from a must see event to a "let's see what else is going on that night" type event. The overall financial impact of McGregor not being part of card will be huge.
Then came the report that the reason for the "retirement" was that McGregor asked for $10 million for the July 9th rematch against Nate Diaz and Dana White said no. The company message seems to be that no one fighter is bigger than the UFC. But the thing is - the UFC is basically Dana White. And if the reason many people would be buying the pay-per-view would be to watch Conor McGregor - shouldn't he be fairly compensated for his drawing power?
This story is far from over. It will be interesting to watch to see what Conor McGregor's next move will be.

Stuff I found interesting or amusing and thought I'd share.
- What female sports reporters have to go through on the road genuinely makes me angry
- Connor McGregor not running away from Saturday's loss
- Scary how unsecure your personal information really is
- Amazing that this was just 15-years ago. Nomar at that point was on a level with Larry Bird in Boston. Now he's mostly forgotten.
- Who knew? International cactus smuggling is actually a thing
- The story of ZIMA (delicious delicious ZIMA)
- This is too bad. Joseph Gordon-Levitt would have been perfect as the Sandman.

Connor McGregor
So Nate Diaz choked out Connor McGregor at UFC 196 last night but remember the Irishman is still the 145 weight class champion and still he has the best entrance song in sports (The Foggy Dew by Sinead O'Connor).
I also say McGregor would be perfect to play Mad Sweeney in the upcoming adaptation of Neil Gaiman's American Gods.
