1984-85

• Three years after being dethroned, Canada reclaimed the Canada Cup, winning the third edition of the six-nation tournament. Finland did not participate in this edition, replaced by West Germany.

• For the first time since it began televising NHL games, CBC was no longer Canada's exclusive NHL broadcaster. Rival network CTV started showing NHL games on Friday nights, with CBC continuing its traditional Saturday telecasts. The two networks would split airing the playoffs and the Finals.

• The Philadelphia Flyers finished with the NHL's best record, four points ahead of the Edmonton Oilers. But in the Final, the Oilers were three games better than the Flyers, winning the Stanley Cup, four games to one.
