Sinus issues every winter - head (sinus), throat pain, dizziness, nausea

I get what seems to me (a non-medically trained, but scientifically educated person) sinus issues more or less every winter - even when it's not especially cold out, although it sure feels it because it's humid this year. Doctors are not really helping me in depth, please suggest ideas to be my own health advocate and/or manage the symptoms (detailed within)... [more inside]

Solve this trivial medical mystery

A few times per year I'll notice a localized spot on my skin that for a day or two is mysteriously very achy in an odd feverish way, typically worsening when pressed or touched. The spot moves around (mostly somewhere on an arm, leg or hand) and there's never any visible lesion or injury associated with it. Sometimes this precedes the onset of a cold or flu, but not always. Do other people get this? Does anybody know a name or a potential explanation? [more inside]

Where to get a medical screening body scan or something similar?

I've been in physical hell for a couple years after much milder issues for about 5. Doctors sort of shug and suggest maybe Fibromyalgia despite saying a lot of my symptoms don't line up, do yoga, keep moving, try this diet or that. I went gluten free, anti-inflammatory , etc. Doctors aren't concerned but I am concerned it could be something bigger and want to rule it out. Where can I get a private pay test for the cheapest? wrist pain on pinky finger side

owww. I'm 10 days into a massive decluttering clear-out of my parents' place and developed a mild strain in my right wrist (dominant hand), presumably due to hauling stacks of books around etc. Yesterday I felt a sharp stabbing pain when I was moving a table and now my wrist hurts even when eating or typing. Mattress alternatives for sweaty sleeper with neck/shoulder/arm pain

Perfecting the claw trim with a level 4 cat

Foster cat Jonathan Cat is, well, freaked out about getting his claws trimmed. One toe in particular seems to hurt when manipulated at all, and he gets very upset when any claw is trimmed. So far, trimming one claw per day sometimes works (except the painful one), but that's really too much for _me_, and the painful one is a real problem. I want to make sure a) I'm doing the best I can to be gentle with the painful toe, and b) there's nothing else I can do to make this better for him. [more inside]

What is my best bet for reading in bed without back/neck/shoulder pain?

I love to start the day by reading in bed and end it by watching something in bed. My neck and back don't enjoy it. Right now, I sit propped up with a husband pillow, but this seems to round my neck and spine and cause pain. I don't know how to read ergonomically at all, because looking down is apparently bad and I'd be exhausted if I tried to hold a book or tablet at eye level! [more inside]

Do you ever have pains like these?

I often get a sharp, stabbing, irregular throbbing pain that repeats at irregular intervals for an hour or two at a time. The odd thing is that the site of the pain shifts completely from one day to another, and there is never anything wrong at the site of the pain. I’m wondering if anyone else gets pains like these, and if so whether you have any ideas about what it is, or if it’s just a mystery to you. [more inside]

Why does flexing my ankle cause the worst pain ever in my upper calf?

My body has started doing this horrible new thing where sometimes when I am lying down in bed and flex my ankle (pulling my toes up towards my head), the top of my calf muscle (behind and below my knee) explodes into a spasm of THE WORST PAIN I HAVE EVER FELT IN MY LIFE like uncontrollably thrashing around screaming for a minute or two bad. This is a relatively new development but has happened 3 times in the past couple of months. What might be causing this and what sort of exercises can I do to prevent it from ever happening again? My Google-fu is failing me to even find the name of the condition. Thanks.
