Explain back pain to me like I’m a n00b

In the last three years, like most people, my life has been weird. I’ve spent much of it on my sofa, a lot of it in my bed tossing and turning and the rest in my desk chair which was originally just meant for 3-4 hours at home after work but switched to 8-9 hours at work plus 3-4 hours. I don’t know how to describe my back pain and can’t figure out how to find solutions. [more inside]

Where can I buy a weighted kypho-orthosis?

Recently in working with my chiropractor she pointed me towards a published paper about the management of cervicogenic headaches with physical therapy and postural changes with the aid of a weighted kypho-orthotic. I did the exercises and they've been helping tremendously. I want to try the Weighted Kypho-Orthosis but I can't find one on google. Where can I buy one? Thanks!!

What is happening in my back?

YANMD, I’m just curious about how likely it is that the current prescription I have is going to fix the underlying cause. I’ve had persistent lower back pain recently that seems to begin in the afternoons/evenings, when I’m tired—I’ve always had something similar but it used to only happen after walking for 8+ hours a day on vacation. Now it’s happening every day. More details inside. [more inside]

Painful Lower Belly Fat

Over the past 6 months I've developed a lot of lower belly fat that under certain circumstances makes me look oddly pregnant. The trouble is that this area *hurts* and is an ongoing source of pain, heaviness, and pressure. I also have a lot of lower back pain, a frequent need to pee, and frequent IBS-like symptoms. Is this just part and parcel of weight gain, or am I missing something?

Fat woman lower back pain

Shit happened and I gained 30kg. When I stand up or walk for more than 20 minutes (and I used to be able to walk all day) the back muscles just above my butt scream. I also have a huge front (breasts & belly). Is there anything I can do to ameliorate the back pain while I lose weight? (Extra difficulty: recovery from respiratory disorder that leaves me severely fatigued everyday. )

Resources like "Back Mechanic," but focused on ppl who use desks/comps?

I'm someone who needs to use a computer. I found Back Mechanic, but it didn't seem to speak directly to the specific set of issues facing people who sit (or stand) at a desk all day. I'm looking for resources that have a similar "outlook" to Back Mechanic (well researched, based in clinical experience), but specifically oriented towards desk workers. [more inside]

Did an adjustable bed frame help you?

Looking for anecdotes about adjustable bed frames, I saw a few older posts but not a lot. My partner had back surgery 2 years and I feel like we've tried every sort of pillow/support/topper combination there is (both before and after the surgery) to try and get him comfortable. Poor guy! In the last couple of months he's started sleeping in a recliner in another room, he says that's the only way he doesn't hurt in the morning, but we'd both like to figure out how he could be comfortable in our bed. Fix my back in Austin

I was diagnosed with bulging L4/L5 discs with spondylolysis and stenosis. Doctor convinced me to get epidural / facet injections. After the shots, I started getting very bad sciatica ( I think its sciatica ). I could hardly stand in the shower. Before the shots I was running half marathons. Now I can't run at all. I can't lift heavy things. Only walking makes it feel better. Its been six months with no improvement. The quality of my life is way worse than it was before. What happened post injection? Can anyone recommend a good back doctor / orthopedist in Austin?

Did your back get better?

So I've been at least preliminarily diagnosed with a herniated disk at the L5-S1 level. This is after a couple months of back and leg pain and an attempt to treat it with oral Prednisone. The Prednisone worked for a few days while I was on it but the pain came back after the course was over. Yesterday, I went back to my GP and he gave me the diagnosis and referred me to a neurologist and is arranging for an MRI. My question is: have you been through this, what was your treatment and how did it go? [more inside]

Lower Right Back/Side Pain Every Morning

Other than having a bad mattress or sleeping in a weird position ... is there any potentially serious medical condition that would cause me to wake up every morning with pain in my lower right back/side? The pain wakes me up every morning (usually after about 6 hours of sleep). It goes away after I have been up and moving around for 30 minutes or so. Note: I do have a small tear in my rotator cuff - I'm wondering if I'm compensating for the shoulder issue and sleeping in a funny position?

Back pain between shoulder blades

I am a 47 year old female & have a office job where I sit at a computer all day. I started having back pain in my middle back right between my shoulder blades after lifting some boxes down from a high shelf about a month ago. I have always noticed my lower back is curved, if I stand up against a wall I can not press my lower back against it. When I exercise doing pilates I really have to concentrate on keeping my lower back pressed down and not arching. I bought a lumbar back support cushion for my office chair so I can sit back and have support in my lower back. What kind of exercises could I do to help with this constant ache in my back?
