We are considering a move to Valencia Spain anyone have a comment?

We are a couple in our mid 60's and very young and happening at heart and body. We are tired of the US and its crummy politics and high cost of real estate and would like to move to Spain or Italy in two years. We both will still like to work, I am a chef and he is a builder, we can speak a little Spanish and would learn more of course. He is from Holland so we can legally move there. Anyone have any experience with moving to a foreign country as an older person and what it is like to make friends, fit into a new culture and learn a new way of life? [more inside]

Anyone have experience living in Los Angeles and want to share?

We are thinking of moving back to LA after five years in the East coast and would love to know what the opinions are from folks. We know the real estate is crazy but what else do people want to say about it?

Where is a good small city with decent weather for happening couple?

We are looking for a small city without cold winters that has a large body of water - no inland towns for us- and is vibrant, cultured and intelligent. We have lived in LA, NY and Miami and are now in Durham, Nc - finding it too woodsy and land locked and way to hot in the summer here. We both work and are in our early sixties.

Is there life for an active couple in their late 50's in Sarasota Fl?

We are looking to live near the water and have tried Miami and LA and are now on the shoreline of Ct. The only problem is; we can't afford to buy a house here and the winter is a bit of a deal breaker. Thinking of moving to the West coast of Florida for the water and the warmth and would love to hear anyone's experience of this area. We have thought of Sarasota and would be open to other cities or large towns. We are both active, still working, (self employed) very liberal and interested in great food and a community of interesting people. We couldn't be somewhere where everyone is retired. Any thoughts?

Considering moving from the NE and wonder about Durham NC

We are a couple in our mid-50's and are looking for some specific things in our next move; more temperate weather than the North East where we are now; progressive thinking people, good food and a thriving food scene, ability to buy a house for less than $350K, low property taxes ( less than $5K) within driving distance (45 minutes is the max) to a major airport and open-minded people. We are both entrepreneurial and active, love the outdoors and nature and want a small yard for a garden and to be near some kind of water be it a large lake, river or coast. We are considering Portland Ore. or Durham NC. We are still working and work for ourselves. Anyone have an opinion on either or both?

Can you start a new business ( private cooking classes) in Asheville, nc

I am considering moving to Asheville and hear a lot about how hard it is to make a living there and how over saturated it is already with entrepreneurs. I am in my mid 50's and have been a successful private chef who is now teaching cooking in various small schools and in private homes. I am not thrilled with the northeast weather and thought of Asheville as a relocation spot. Having just visited there it seemed there is a lot of food buzz going on- I know it's a "foodie" town and think I might be able to succeed there. I am concerned about the rising cost of buying a house in the area and that I could find enough work there. Any input?

Can't take the cold Northeast and wonder if Charleston would work?

Can't take the cold Northeast and wonder if Charleston would work? My husband and I recently moved from Los Angeles to the Eastern shore of Ct. for a variety of reasons mainly cost of living and seeking a closer knit community. Now that we have experienced a cold winter ( it's just starting!) we see that it isn't for us. Weather is a big deal and we thought we could handle it but the being stuck indoors, the layers of clothes, the desire to hibernate are all getting to us pretty quick. [more inside]
