Be it known that/I, CHESTER. M. PEASE, of Monson, in the county of Hampden, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and improved Stage for Shingling Roofs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, 4end exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art izo-make and use the same, reference being had to 4the accompanying drawings, forming pnrt of this specification. 1
This invention relates to u new and improved stage for shingling roofs; und it consists in a peculiar construction of the stage, as hereinafter fully shown and described., whereby it may be readily adjusted orshif'tcd on the roof, as required in the process of shingling, and a very simple and economical device for the purpose obtained.
In the accompanying sheet of drawings- Figure 1 is a side view of my invention applied to a roof'.
Figure 2, a. detached perspective View of a claw pertaining to the same.
Figure 3, a detached perspective v iew of" a hold-fast pertaining to thc sume.
Similar letters ci' reference indicate corresponding parts. l
A represents a piece of plank or board, of suitable dimensions, having a metal rack, B, secured to its upper surface,'and a metal claw, C, attached to its under side at one end. Y
This clan', G, is composed of a bar, a, which may he equal in' width to A, and formed with tecth, at its outer end. i I
The bar a may be secured'to Ahy bolts pr screws.
D is a. ho1d-fast, composed of av elastic metal har, e, which is also attached, nt one end, to theunder side or A, asshown at d, the opposite end being provided with a claw-head, e, of spent-shape, so as to have a sharp edge,f, at each side of the elastic har c, (see more particularly iig. 3.)
The claw e of this hold-fast extends nearly to the teeth of the chuv C.
E isaubar, which is attached by ajcint,f to the end of A, where the chuv C is attached; and this bei' E has a. support, F, connected to it by ejoint, g, the lower end of F having n metal pluto, G, secured'to it, which plete is forked or notched t its lower end, toit over or sti-eddie the rack B, and catch into the sume, (see iig. l.)
The parts above described comprise what I term n bracket, the har E-being adjusted in a horizontal position when the device is applied or ettached to the roof, the hold-fast being inserted under a. shingle, It, of one tierof shingles, so that the upper edge, f, of the claw e will catch into the under side of `said shingle, and the other edge, f, catch into the shingle h', underneath h, asshown clearly in iig. 1, ivhile the teeth b of the claw C will catch into the upper surface of shingle h.' Any suitable number of these braclietsrmay be used, the bars E supporting the platform.
The brackets may be readily adjusted, as required, in the process of shingling.
I claim as new, and desire to secure hy Letters Patent- The plank A, provided with the' claw C, hold-fast D, and rack B, in combination with the har E, connected to A by a jointhf, and having asupport, F, attached to it by a joint, g, the lower end of F ,being provided with a forked plate, G', to catch into the rack, and all arranged substantially in the manner as and for the purpose' set forth. v
