Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a two-cycle internal combustion engine of high efficiency, simple constitution and low air pollution, by fitting a self-closing scavenging valve at a scavenging port and causing the valve to open or close in connection with the relationship between the scavenging pressure and the pressure of a combustion chamber.
CONSTITUTION: As a crankshaft 4 rotates in the direction of an arrow and a piston 5 goes up and a fresh mixture is sucked into a crankcase 3, the pressure of a combustion chamber 2 is higher than the scavenging pressure so that a scavenging valve 9 is entirely closed and an exhaust port 6 is closed. For that reason, scavenging gas (fresh mixture) in a cylinder 1 is compressed. As the piston 5 goes down after ignition by a spark plug 16 for the piston at the top dead center, the fresh mixture in the crankcase 3 is first compressed and the exhaust gas is second released through the open exhaust port 6. When the pressure of the fresh mixture in the crankcase 3 has exceeded that of the combustion chamber 2, the scavenging valve 9 is opened against a spring 11 so that the scavenging gas flows into the combustion chamber 2 through the scavenging port 8.
