Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve combustion and reduce fuel consumption, by connecting an accessory combustion chamber to a main combustion chamber and to a crankcase through an accessory scavenging passage and providing an accessory intake valve for introducing the fresh mixture in the crankcase into the accessory combustion chamber.
CONSTITUTION: An exhaust port 6 and a scavenging port 10, which are opened and closed by a piston 11, are provided on the inside surface of a cylinder 1. An accessory combustion chamber 20 communicates with a main combustion chamber 17. A spark plug 22 is located in the accessory combustion chamber 20. The accessory combustion chamber communicates with a crankcase 9 through an accessory scavenging passage 28. Before the exhaust port 6 is opened, an accessory intake valve 29 is opened by a cam so that the fresh mixture in the crankcase 9 is introduced into the accessory combustion chamber 20 through an accessory intake port 31. As a result, the combustion gas in the main combustion chamber 17 is scavenged toward the exhaust port 6 to attain good combustion.
