Abstract

PURPOSE: To decrease fuel consumption of a multi-cylinder 2-cycle diesel engine with an exhaust turbosupercharger, by providing a feed air control valve charging air to a corresponding cylinder from a supply air chamber.
CONSTITUTION: A multi-cylinder engine is provided with a turbine 5, blower 6, scavenging chamber 7 and scavenging port 8. A supply air control valve 102 for each cylinder is closed throughout a period for the scavenging port 8 of a corresponding cylinder when opened or at least in said period including close timing of the scavenging port 8. Said valve is opened for except the above described period to charge air from a feed air chamber 101 to the scavenging chamber 7 of a corresponding cylinder. In this way, combustion cycle operation is not deteriorated by closing of the scavenging port 8 and decrease of scavenging efficiency to increase the effective expansion stroke of a piston 1 from the delay of open timing of an exhaust valve 3, and low fuel consumption can be obtained for the engine.
