Abstract

PURPOSE: To measure the current amplification factor of a bipolar transistor omitting an ammeter and at high speed by using an amplifier and a comparator composed of operational amplifiers.
CONSTITUTION: The collector, base and emitter of an NPN bipolar transistor 4 are connected to a collector terminal 1, a base terminal 2 and an emitter terminal 3 respectively. If a positive voltage is applied to the base of the NPN bipolar transistor 4 through the base terminal 2, the NPN bipolar transistor 4 is turned on and voltages appear at the output of an amplifier A1 and the noninverting input of a comparator A2. When the output of the amplifier A1 and the noninverting input voltage of the comparator A2 becomes the output of the amplifier A1 corresponding to a required current that flows through the collector terminal 1 and the noninverting input voltage of the comparator A2 equal to the inverting input voltage of the comparator A2, a base current will become constant. A current amplification factor can be determined from the base current corresponding to the required current that flows through the collector terminal 1.
