図1は、本発明の第1の実施の形態における表示装置100の一構成例を示す概念図である。表示装置100は、タイミング生成部110と、信号電位生成部120と、ライトスキャナ(WSCN:Write SCaNner)200と、水平セレクタ(HSEL:Horizontal SELector)300とを備える。また、この表示装置100は、電源スキャナ(DSCN:Drive SCaNner)400と、画素アレイ部500とを備える。画素アレイ部500は、n×m(mおよびnは2以上の整数)個の二次元マトリックス状に配列された画素回路600を備える。ここでは、便宜上、1行目、2行目およびm行目における1列目、2列目およびn列目に配置された9個の画素回路600が示されている。
図2は、本発明の第1の実施の形態における画素回路600の一構成例を模式的に示す回路図である。画素回路600は、書込みトランジスタ610と、駆動トランジスタ620と、保持容量630と、発光素子640とを備える。ここでは、書込みトランジスタ610および駆動トランジスタ620がそれぞれnチャンネル型トランジスタである場合を想定する。
図3は、本発明の第1の実施の形態における画素回路600の一動作例に関するタイミングチャートである。ここでは、横軸を共通の時間軸として、走査線(WSL)210、電源線(DSL)410、データ線(DTL)310、第1ノード(ND1)650および第2ノード(ND2)660における電位変化が示されている。
次に、本発明の第1の実施の形態における画素回路600の動作状態の遷移について以下に図面を参照して詳細に説明する。ここでは、図3で実線により示したタイミングチャートのTP1乃至TP9の期間に対応する画素回路600の動作状態を示す。また、画素回路600の動作状態を説明するにあたり、便宜上、発光素子640の寄生容量641を図示するとともに、書込みトランジスタ610をスイッチとして図示し、走査線(WSL)210を省略する。
次に、本発明の第1の実施の形態における信号電位生成部120により生成された第1および第2の信号電位(Vsig1および2)に対応する画素回路600における発光輝度について以下に図面を参照して説明する。
次に、図8に示した対応関係のうち一部の対応関係に関する第1および第2の信号電位(Vsig1および2)の生成例について以下に図面を参照して説明する。
次に、第1および第2の信号電位(Vsig1および2)に対する電位設定の変形例として、低輝度範囲における第1および第2の信号電位(Vsig1および2)を等しくする例について以下に図面を参照して説明する。
[電子機器への適用例]
図11は、本発明の第2の実施の形態におけるテレビジョンセットの例である。このテレビジョンセットは、本発明の第1の実施の形態が適用されたテレビジョンセットである。このテレビジョンセットは、フロントパネル12、フィルターガラス13等から構成される映像表示画面11を含み、本発明の第1の実施の形態における表示装置100をその映像表示画面11に用いることにより作製される。

Claims (6)
- 複数の画素回路と、
前記画素回路における発光輝度の階調の各々に対応付けられた信号電位と前記信号電位ごとに複数が設定された設定電位のいずれかとを映像信号に基づいて生成する信号電位生成部と、
前記設定電位および前記信号電位を前記画素回路に供給するための制御信号を生成する制御信号生成部とを具備し、
前記複数の画素回路の各々は、
前記生成された設定電位を書き込んだ後に前記生成された信号電位を前記制御信号に基づいて第1ノードに書き込む書込みトランジスタと、
前記第1ノードの電位と第2ノードの電位との間の電位差に基づいて信号電流を出力する駆動トランジスタと、
前記書込みトランジスタにより書き込まれた前記設定電位および前記信号電位の各々における前記駆動トランジスタの移動度に応じた電流により上昇した前記第2ノードの電位と前記第1ノードの電位との間の前記電位差を保持するための保持容量と、
前記駆動トランジスタから出力された前記信号電流に応じて発光する発光素子と
を含み、
前記信号電位生成部は、前記信号電位を超えない前記設定電位を生成し、前記信号電位が低いほど前記信号電位のステップ幅を狭くする表示装置。 - 前記信号電位生成部は、前記信号電位が所定電位より低い低信号範囲において前記駆動トランジスタから前記移動度に応じた電流を前記第2ノードに供給することを抑制するための電位を前記信号電位として生成し、
前記駆動トランジスタは、前記信号電位における前記駆動トランジスタの移動度に応じた電流により上昇した前記第2ノードの電位と前記第1ノードの電位との間の前記電位差に基づいて前記信号電流を出力する
請求項1記載の表示装置。 - 前記信号電位生成部は、前記信号電位の全範囲に対する10分の1程度の前記低信号範囲において前記駆動トランジスタから前記移動度に応じた電流を前記第2ノードに供給することを抑制するための電位を前記設定電位として生成する請求項2記載の表示装置。
- 前記信号電位生成部は、前記信号電位が所定電位より低い低信号範囲において前記設定電位および前記信号電位を互いに等しい電位に生成する請求項1記載の表示装置。
- 前記信号電位生成部により前記設定電位が生成されてから前記信号電位が生成されるまでの間において前記保持容量に保持された電圧を前記駆動トランジスタの閾値電圧に相当する電圧以下にするための電位を選択して前記画素回路に供給する選択回路をさらに具備し、
前記書込みトランジスタは、前記選択回路により選択された電位を前記第1ノードに供給する
請求項1記載の表示装置。 - 複数の画素回路と、
前記画素回路における発光輝度の階調の各々に対応付けられた信号電位と前記信号電位ごとに複数が設定された設定電位のいずれかとを映像信号に基づいて生成する信号電位生成部と、
前記設定電位および前記信号電位を前記画素回路に供給するための制御信号を生成する制御信号生成部とを具備し、
前記複数の画素回路の各々は、
前記生成された設定電位を書き込んだ後に前記生成された信号電位を前記制御信号に基づいて第1ノードに書き込む書込みトランジスタと、
前記第1ノードの電位と第2ノードの電位との間の電位差に基づいて信号電流を出力する駆動トランジスタと、
前記書込みトランジスタにより書き込まれた前記設定電位および前記信号電位の各々における前記駆動トランジスタの移動度に応じた電流により上昇した前記第2ノードの電位と前記第1ノードの電位との間の前記電位差を保持するための保持容量と、
前記駆動トランジスタから出力された前記信号電流に応じて発光する発光素子と
を含み、
前記信号電位生成部は、前記信号電位を超えない前記設定電位を生成し、前記信号電位が低いほど前記信号電位のステップ幅を狭くする電子機器。
