990,689. Felt; finishing fabrics. H. OFFERMANN, and H. ZIELER. Feb. 26, 1962 [Feb. 25, 1961], No. 7375/62. Headings D1R and D1S. [Also in Division B5] A felt is produced by laying an unfulled fleece 1 on a woven or knitted fabric 2; needling, from the fleece side, some of the fibres 3 of the fleece through the fabric so that the free ends 3<SP>1</SP> thereof project from the back of the fabric; and subjecting the product so obtained to a condensing process so that the free ends 3<SP>1</SP> are at least partially felted with one another. After needling, the felt is processed on a plate or roller felting machine and is subsequently fulled on hammer cylinder or roller fulling machines. The fleece may comprise wool fibres. The fabric backing may comprise an elastic weave possibly cut at 45 degrees from tubular fabric. The felt is subjected to washing, dyeing, centrifuging, impregnating, drying, shearing, steaming and pressing.
