Abstract

928,871. Felt; laminates. HUYCK CORPORATION. Feb. 22, 1961 [Feb. 29, 1960], No. 6447/61. Classes 42 (2) and 140. A papermaker's felt comprises a base fabric woven from yarns at least some of which contain sufficient fullable fibre to render the fabric capable of substantial fulling, and a nap consisting of one or more continuous layers of non- woven fibre secured to at least one side of the base fabric by needling while the base fabric is still fullable, and further secured to the base fabric by fulling. Fulling is defined as the application of water to the fabric in a manner such that there is some reduction in one or both dimensions of the fabric with attendant firming of the woven fabric. The fullable fibre may be wool, and the fullable fabric may also contain fibres of polyamide, polyester, polyacrylonitrile, polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl alcohol, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyvinylidene chloride, polyvinylidene cyanide or copolymers. The non-woven fibre may be fullable or not. The base fabric may be partially fulled before the non-woven fibres are applied. The fulled fabric may be suctiontreated while wet, dried and again suctiontreated to remove loose fibres. The nap of the felt may be trimmed by shearing or singeing.
