Abstract

An austenitic stainless steel has the following percentage composition, by weight:- Cr 19,5-24; Ni and Mn at least 4 each and 8-13 in total; C 0,15- <0,45; Cu 0,5-3; N at least 0,15 but no more than can be retained in solution; Fe and impurities, the remainder. The steel may also contain Si up to 1 and P, S up to 0,03 each, and may be used for the manufacture of I.C. engine valves and turbine blades.
