Abstract
849,702. Alloy steel annealing. ARMCO INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION. June 20, 1958, No. 19786/58. Classes 72 and 82(1) A precipitation hardenable chromiumcopper stainless steel consists of 12-20% Cr, 2-4.5% Cu, 0.01-0.20% C, 0.01-0.2% N, remainder iron and unavoidable impurities, the Cr, C and N contents being correlated in accordance with the area A, B, C, D, of Fig. 1. The steel may also contain up to 1% Mn, up to 1% Si, up to 0.75% Ni, up to 0.05% P, up to 0.5% S, and up to 5% Mo considered as equivalent to Cr in making use of Fig. 1. Up to 4% each of Cb, Ta and W may be included, together with up to 2% V, up to 12% Co, up to 1% Ti and up to 0.05% Bo. The steel may be austenitized by heating to 1600‹-2100‹F. for up to an hour, cooling in air, water, or oil, followed by precipitation hardening at 800‹-1200‹F. for up to 24 hours.
