Abstract

847,511. Detecting engine detonations. KUHN, L. Jan. 25, 1957 [Feb. 1, 1956], No. 2755/57. Class 7(2). [Also in Group XXXVIII] A magneto-striction, capacitative or piezoelectric pick-up 5, Fig. 3, incorporating a resiliently mounted mass 1, Fig. 1, of low natural vibration frequency, e.g. 4.5 kilocycles per second, so as to respond according to the detonation wave front steepness, actuates a measuring direct-current voltmeter 9, a "magic eye" electronic device 10 and a cathode ray oscillograph 11, any or all of which may be operative at one time. An amplifier 6, operating within the range of one to twenty kilocycles per second with variable gain, a discriminating circuit 7, permitting only voltages above e.g. 2 volts to pass, and an integrator 8, feeding a balanced direct-current bridge in which the voltmeter 9 is arranged, are provided.
