A window sash fastener comprises the combination of an attachment plate a having a socket c formed on or secured to it, an arm e pivotally attached at one end to the plate at a position adjacent to the socket and a helical spring j or springs, contained in the socket and adapted by pressure on either the adjacent end or one side of the arm to secure the arm in either its operative or its inoperative position. As shown, the plate a is formed with a channel b and the socket is a separate part having a pair of spaced lugs d at one end. It is secured in the channel by the pivot pin h for the arm e, the pivot pin passing through apertures in the lugs d and channel b. The spring or a pair of springs, one contained in the other, are housed in the socket and bear on a slidable abutment k which in turn bears on the arm. The arm has a dovetail for engaging a keeper g.
