Abstract
246,880. Matricardi, G. Aug. 5, 1924. Drawings to Specification. Cylinders, pipes for.-In a two-stroke-cycle engine a valve is provided on the exhaust pipe whose period of vibration has a determined relation with the period of oscillation of the gases in the exhaust pipe, so that there is first produced a vacuum in the cylinder by which it is fully charged, and then a pressure is set up which initially compresses the charge drawn in. The inlet port to the cylinder opens after the opening of the exhaust port but closes earlier. The valve may be positively driven or automatic. The exhaust pipe may contain in its length a symmetrically arranged expansion chamber and means may be provided for cooling the exhaust. When applied to a multi-cylinder engine each cylinder may be arranged with an independent exhaust device as described above or a common exhaust pipe may be used.
